To qualify, students must:• Enrolled in a college or university, in the U.S. or Puer<strong>to</strong> Rico• Have completed freshman year of college prior <strong>to</strong> the beginning of the <strong>internship</strong>• Have a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale• Be authorized or eligible <strong>to</strong> work by law in the United States (most <strong>internship</strong>assignments require U.S. citizenship <strong>to</strong> participate)• Be an undergraduate or graduate student (seniors graduating in May can participatein the summer of their graduation year)Weekly PayIntern salaries are sufficient <strong>to</strong> meet expenses during the course of the program.LocationsAbout 70% of our interns work in Washing<strong>to</strong>n D.C., other locations have included, but are notlimited <strong>to</strong>, Seattle, Los Angeles, Denver, Albuquerque, Dallas, St Louis, Chicago, Atlanta, NewYork City, <strong>and</strong> more.Federal InternsCompensation for federal interns is determined by their academic level at the time ofapplication: Pay is based on 40 hours per week:• Sophomore/Junior $450• Senior $480• Graduate $550.The pay rate for students placed in a cooperative <strong>internship</strong> (Co-op) will vary <strong>and</strong> is set by theparticipating agency.Corporate InternsAt minimum, corporate interns will be paid salaries similar <strong>to</strong> federal interns based on 40hours per week.Travel <strong>and</strong> Housing• Round-trip airfare is arranged for <strong>and</strong> paid by <strong>HACU</strong> for federal interns. Prior approvalmay be requested by interns who wish <strong>to</strong> arrange their own transportation <strong>and</strong> receivereimbursement for expenses.• Housing arrangements are managed by <strong>HACU</strong>. Federal interns pay for housing throughpayroll deductions. Federal interns can choose <strong>to</strong> arrange their own housing.• <strong>HACU</strong> <strong>and</strong> corporations will work with corporate interns <strong>to</strong> make housing <strong>and</strong> travelarrangements whenever applicable. However, corporate interns may make their ownhousing <strong>and</strong> non-airfare travel arrangements.Academic CreditInterns may be eligible <strong>to</strong> receive academic credit. In addition <strong>to</strong> the <strong>scholarship</strong>, a student can ordinarilyapply for federal financial aid (Pell Grant, Stafford Loan, <strong>and</strong> PLUS loan)<strong>to</strong>ward this study abroad program.<strong>HACU</strong> Scholarship ProgramAcademic <strong>scholarship</strong>s are available <strong>to</strong> helpstudents defray college expenses.
