DE/LEC 1 took top honors for the Jumper Prix De Villes, and featuredLEC student Ashley Marshall aboard her own horse, Vivaldi. Ashley not only representedher team in the competition, but also took Grand Champion for the individual portion of the competition.Junior Jessie Rothberg competed on DE/LEC 2 aboard her own horse Roman Holiday.The second place team was LEC Addicted, a team consisting of LEC students Simone Cardosa,Maegen Bingham, Katie Noonan, and Katherine Karrer. Both Simone and Katherine boastedclear rounds aboard LEC school horses Willie and Color Me Ziggy, respectively. This team wascoach by LEC instructor Kelly Theisen.Third place was taken by team Honey Badger Don’t Care, coached by LEC instructor JulieMcElhaney and featuring LEC students Veronique “Ronnie” Hodgkinson, Katharine Knauz, andLauren Hagarty. These students competed on their privately owned horses, with both Ronnie andLauren finishing with no faults for either round.The fifth place team of LEC SSF featured Courtney Newby riding LEC school horse In theSkye, as well as LEC instructor Julie McElhaney aboard her own 22-year-old mare, Chanel.Chanel has competed in 10 Prix De Villes competitions over the years, highlighted by a win in theHighs Team competition last year. Courtney Newby and In the Skye also received IndividualChampion in the Saturday Low Jumper classes.Jessie Rothberg conquered the Junior Amateur Hunter Derby,a new class offered at this year’s Prix de Villes. Ridingschool horse No Small Affair, known as Montana, Jessieearned 4th place against 9 other competitors. For the HighPerformance Hunter Derby, LEC student Chelsie Stair wasReserve Champion on her own horse, My Lady Luck. SeniorStephanie Papais received 5 th place on school horse DaksFifth Avenue, and senior Corinne Lane earned 6 th place ribbonaboard her horse, Calvin Klein. Equine Recognition NightUpcoming EventsDressage Derby ofOhio I and IIJune 16-17Farm Vet/USDFClinic with LiloForeJune 30-July 1The third annual Equine Recognition Night took place on <strong>May</strong> 2 nd toacknowledge the achievements of the teams, students, and faculty throughoutthe past scholastic year. To start the night, the new members and officers ofthe Equine Leadership Council were recognized and their new president BethanySattler handed out their inaugural Leadership Award to Nicole Sauer. Laddie’sLegacy also introduced their new officers and announced the recipient oftheir Sportsmanship Award. Rachelle Mosholder was the deserving recipient.Following the club awards and recognition, each of the teams, IDA, IHSA,IHSA Western, and ICTA, announced their new officers and also thankedtheir coaches for their hard work and dedication to the teams. The night concludedwith recognition of each of the graduating seniors, as Linnea Swansondelivered a speech on behalf of Dr. Giedt and each senior was given an embroidered<strong>Lake</strong> <strong>Erie</strong> <strong>College</strong> duffle bag.
