It was the language of philosophy and there was no populardemand for philosophy as there was for Purānas or the epics.An exploration of the translation of Pali canonical texts intoSanskrit would give us a lot of insight into the strategies followed intranslating philosophical texts. However such an exploration wouldbe outside the tether of this paper.Let us now at Indian aesthetics and Indian poetics seekingsome light on the act(ivity) we call ‘translation’.Section IIThe various art forms, in the Indian context, are closelyinterrelated.
