L. 1951, p. 224) which designated it as a Division of theDepartment of Public Defense with its Director being theAdjutant General. The primary purpose of the Civil DefenseDivision was to respond to the "existing and increasing possibility of the occurrence of disasters or emergencies of unprecedented size." In 1981 (Ga. L. 1981, p. 389) the name of theDivision was changed to the emergency Management Agency.Similarly, many county civil defense offices changed theirnames to fall in line with the state agency.
