,JHax CMmhECRETARY OF STATE 30334(4O4) 656-2881of jifcrteCapitolMy Fellow Georgians:I am pleased to present the 1983-84 edition of the Georgia Officialand Statistical Register, a biennial publication of the Office of Secretaryof State.Under authority of Section 45-13-47 of the Georgia Laws, theDepartment of Archives and History is to compile every two years anOfficial and Statistical Register, containing brief sketches of electedand certain appointed State officials and members of Congress from Georgia,rosters of State and county officials, lists of State institutions andofficial boards, State and county population and election statistics, and"miscellaneous statistics bearing upon related matters of current interestor likely to be of value to the future historian." The Secretary of Stateis authorized to print the Register and distribute copies to the GeneralAssembly, State departments, Georgia high schools, and units of theUniversity System.Readers of this edition of the Georgia Official and StatisticalRegister will note some significant changes in format and content fromthe 1981-82 edition. Election results, except for special elections, havebeen reproduced on microfiche and appear as an insert on the back cover.The cost and space savings realized by this use of microfiche have enabledus to include much historical information and, generally, to provideGeorgians with a more comprehensive publication about Georgia and itsgovernment.This Register is an essential reference work for anyone interestedin the operation of Georgia State government.
