General primary — Whenever any political party shall hold a primary to nominate candidates for publicoffices to be filled in the ensuing November election, the sameshall be held on the second Tuesday in August in each evennumberedyear.Section 21-2-9. November election — The Governor, Statehouseofficers, Members of Congress, Justices of the SupremeCourt, Judges of the Court of Appeals, judges of the superiorcourts, solicitors general, member of the General Assembly,county officers, justices of the peace and constables shall beelected in the November election next preceding the expirationof the term of office. O.C.G.A. 21-2-2. The word "Novemberelection" shall mean the general election held on the Tuesdaynext following the first Monday in November in each evennumbered year.O.C.G. A. 21-2-542. Special election for United States Senator—Whenever a vacancy shall occur in the representation of thisState in the Senate of the United States, such vacancy shall befilled for the unexpired term by the vote of the electors of theState at a special election to be held at the time of the nextNovember election, occurring at least forty days after theoccurrence of such vacancy, and it shall be the duty of theGovernor to issue his proclamation for such election. Untilsuch time as the vacancy shall be filled by an election as hereinprovided, the Governor may make a temporary appointmentto fill such vacancy.O.C.G.A. 21-2-544. Special election for members of GeneralAssembly—Whenever a vacancy shall occur or exit in either Houseof the General Assembly during a session of the GeneralAssembly, or whenever such vacancy shall occur or exist at atime when the members of the General Assembly shall berequired to meet at any time previous to the next Novemberelection, the Governor shall issue, within ten days after thehappening of such vacancy, or after the calling of an extraordinary session of the General Assembly during the existence ofsuch vacancy, a writ of election to the ordinary of each countyinvolved for a special election to fill such vacancy, which election shall be held on a date named in the writ, which shall not beless than thirty nor more than sixty days after its issuance. In allother cases and in cases involving vacancies occurring duringthe 1970 Session of the General Assembly, any such specialelection to fill any such vacancy shall be held if the Governorissues his writ of election therefor. If a vacancy occurs while theGeneral Asembly is in session, and the Governor elects to issuea writ, it shall only be necessary to have one poll open in eachcounty involved, which shall be at the county seat, if only onecandidate has qualified for the vacant seat.O.C.G.A. 21-2-540. Conduct of special election — Everyspecial election shall be held and conducted in all respects inaccordance with the provisions of this Code relating to generalelections, and the provisions of this Code relating to generalelections shall apply thereto insofar as practicable, and notinconsistent with any other provisions of this Code. All suchspecial elections held at the time of a general election shall beconducted by the poll officers by the use of the same equipmentand facilities, so far as practicable, as are used for such generalelection.
