Nursery <strong>Curriculum</strong> Information <strong>Autumn</strong> Term 2011Dear ParentsWe shall be starting the term by introducing the children nursery rhymes and reading traditionaltales. We shall experience the predictable topics of autumn and seasonal festivals. Other ideasand activities will develop in ‘response to the children’s current needs and interests.’Communication Languageand Literacy• Use of a range of fiction and poetry books eg: traditionaltales, rhymes and familiar well known stories:• Regular opportunities to develop speaking and listening skills.• Developing early rhyming skills.• Development of early reading skills through an enjoyment ofbooks.• Regular opportunities to practise emergent writing.• Development of handwriting skills.Problem Solving,Reasoning and Numeracy• Reciting number rhymes and songs.• Reciting and counting numbers in role play and in context.• Handling and playing with 2D and 3D shapes.• Sorting and matching a range of familiar objects and toys.• Development of mathematical language through play.• Use everyday words to describe position.• Measures, including time (vocabulary)• Money and real life problems through role playKnowledge andUnderstanding of theWorld• Myself and my family / Our school and routines• Family and community celebrations e.g. birthdays, harvest,Divali and Christmas• Becoming a ‘nursery family’: learning to be part of a schoolcommunity/ getting to know people and places within school.• Local walks. : school grounds, shops and post office.• ‘Family Walk’ to Belstead Brook.• Foundation Garden/ Playground: using our play area andgarden.• Learning to grow plants and vegetables.• Exploring the use of computers as a class.• Using programs on the interactive whiteboard.


CreativeDevelopmentPhysicalDevelopment• Use of paint, pastels and crayons.• ‘Story drawing.’• Exploring different materials and equipment.• Folding/cutting activities/ develop ability to use scissors• Colour recognition and mixing• Collage, painting and printing using a variety of mediums• Singing familiar songs and rhymes• Explore a range of percussion instruments• Using language to develop creative ideas in role play.•• Develop fine motor control by painting, cutting, threading,jigsaws etc.• Throwing and catching skills.• Move with co-ordination and control. awareness of space• Develop skipping skills. Healthy life style.• Outdoor games and wheeled toys.• Parachute games.Personal, Social andEmotional Development• Activities to encourage independence and self confidence.• Develop awareness of self and others.• Activities to encourage social skills such as sharing and turntaking.• Friends: learning to be part of a school community.• Opportunities to work as part of a group.
