<str<strong>on</strong>g>Haflinger</str<strong>on</strong>g> weltausstellung 2010breeders in Tyrol with 897 mares, not even <strong>on</strong>e thousand mares. Today<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>re are over 3000 mares. This means that today we have overtriple <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> number <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>Haflinger</str<strong>on</strong>g> horses as we did in 1950, five yearsafter <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>Haflinger</str<strong>on</strong>g> Breeders Associati<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Tyrol was establishedand four years after Fohlenh<str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Ebbs was founded. So <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>re was a development upwards – no stagnati<strong>on</strong>, no recessi<strong>on</strong>,but actually a large success. That too is symbolic <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> us. And thispresentati<strong>on</strong> is perhaps also a symbol for <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Tyrolean associati<strong>on</strong>divisi<strong>on</strong>s, since we have stalli<strong>on</strong>s and horses from various regi<strong>on</strong>sthat stand here in <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> ring, from Oberland to unterland, from Imst toEbbs. Where in 1960 <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>re were 997 members, now <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>re are 1200.So it has also been <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> trend to move upwards quickly and str<strong>on</strong>glysince <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> 60s. Admittedly, <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> regi<strong>on</strong>s have moved around a bit. Youw<strong>on</strong>’t believe it, but <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> str<strong>on</strong>gest society fifty years ago was <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>Kitzbühel regi<strong>on</strong>, at that time, <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> str<strong>on</strong>gest breeding regi<strong>on</strong> in Tyrol. With 183 members, and <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> str<strong>on</strong>gest society today (Imst) had atthat time <strong>on</strong>ly 37 members. There <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> shift took place. The societyin Weer remained relatively <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> same with 100 members, as did Mittlereunterinntal with 50, but Obere Gericht grew from 50 membersin size to about 150 members in total today. The reverse was true inWildschönau, where 90 members dropped down to ten. The shiftwas <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>refore not in <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> number <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> horses, but ra<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>r more that numbersin Oberland were str<strong>on</strong>gly augmented while in <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> unterland <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g><str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Tyrolean Associati<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>re was some stagnati<strong>on</strong>. But over all, itis a success that we have greater numbers today than in <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> 50s, 60sand 70s, believe me. That dem<strong>on</strong>strates that <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>Haflinger</str<strong>on</strong>g> is a moredesired horse <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Tyrol now as it was before, and that we are still <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>number 1 breed <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> horses in Tyrol – a positi<strong>on</strong> we will never c<strong>on</strong>cedeor come in danger <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> losing. But for now, let’s return to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> horses in <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> ring. The stalli<strong>on</strong> Nabucco, as stated earlier, is 23 years old and can beseen here with four generati<strong>on</strong>s. Behind him as <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> sec<strong>on</strong>d generati<strong>on</strong>is <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> stalli<strong>on</strong> Nordtirol, a legend himself in his own right andalready 16 years old. Already an older stalli<strong>on</strong>, but he seems to beyounger when <strong>on</strong>e watches him jump and sees how active and dynamiche is under <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> saddle. When <strong>on</strong>e observes <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> stalli<strong>on</strong> duringbreeding seas<strong>on</strong> in <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> stall, he fights nearly daily for his herd andis a real sports typ.Behind him, <strong>on</strong>e <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> new stars, winner <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> younger stalli<strong>on</strong>s,<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> stalli<strong>on</strong> Novembernebel, who is nine years old. However, he isalready a successful breeding stalli<strong>on</strong> and with his progeny as reservewinner, he too shows something special here am<strong>on</strong>g three stalli<strong>on</strong>sin a row, <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> which two hold <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> first and sec<strong>on</strong>d place in <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>category <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> stalli<strong>on</strong>s with <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g>fspring. And <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> last <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> successi<strong>on</strong><str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> generati<strong>on</strong>s is Novemberschnee, who is perhaps <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> future. Wewill see how he develops. Still young, he is <strong>on</strong>ly <strong>on</strong>e year old – tooearly to reach any c<strong>on</strong>clusi<strong>on</strong>s, to early to say where <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> breed willdevelop with him, but he shows tendencies, he has a lighter neck thatis perhaps <strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> thinner side, but his modernity, his effortlessness –this is <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> trend <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> future. We naturally wish that <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>se stalli<strong>on</strong>s would find <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>mselves in <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>high alps during this wea<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>r and at this time <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> year, ra<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>r thanbe here down in <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> valley. From tomorrow this young stalli<strong>on</strong> willalso be in <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Alps, al<strong>on</strong>g with <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> o<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>rs from his age category from<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Tyrolean associati<strong>on</strong>. I would like to thank <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> four stalli<strong>on</strong>s for<str<strong>on</strong>g>Haflinger</str<strong>on</strong>g> Pferdethis presentati<strong>on</strong>; we will see <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m later individually. Special thanksnaturally also goes to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> stalli<strong>on</strong> keeper Engelbert Posch, who hashad <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> stalli<strong>on</strong> Nabucco in his barn for <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> last 20 years. That is alsosomething special, when a stalli<strong>on</strong> is almost c<strong>on</strong>sidered a member<str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> family.Nabucco had a short bout <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> illness two years ago, but recoveredbeautifully and <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> care and food he receives at <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Posch stablesis such that he gleams today in much <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> same way as he did as ayoung stalli<strong>on</strong>.Before we move <strong>on</strong>to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> next category, let me touch <strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> wea<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>r<str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> last few days <strong>on</strong>ce more. When <strong>on</strong>e looks at <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> wea<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>r today, when <strong>on</strong>e looks at <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> developmentover <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> last few days, that is also perhaps a symbol for <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>development <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>Haflinger</str<strong>on</strong>g> breed. At <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> beginning, we had a difficult start. Only a few horses in <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>Tyrolean mountains find <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>mselves at home in south and north Tyrol,in what was at that time <strong>on</strong>e Tyrol. The difficult start was perhaps <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> rain <strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> opening day <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>world show, that <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> world war <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>n became nearly a hurricane for<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>Haflinger</str<strong>on</strong>g>. The str<strong>on</strong>g rains during Wednesday night into Thursdaywas <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> c<strong>on</strong>tinuati<strong>on</strong>, similar to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> pressure that <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> breed feltduring <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> sec<strong>on</strong>d world war. In fact <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> change <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> breed froma light, elegant horse descended from <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Arabian at <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> beginningto a small, round, bulky beast <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> burden had occurred by <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> end <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g><str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> war. This rain for us was also a little symbolic because from <strong>on</strong>eminute to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> next, <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> sun came out and streamed down <strong>on</strong> us froma nearly cloudless sky, much in <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> same way that it was for <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g><str<strong>on</strong>g>Haflinger</str<strong>on</strong>g> breed after <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> founding <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Fohlenh<str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g>s Ebbs.Today we extend over <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> whole world, during <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> 50s we movedvery quickly down from <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> mountains to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> flatlands, throughoutall <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> countries <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Europe and by <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> end <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> 50s we had takenour first step towards America and across our first ocean, which wasfollowed by expansi<strong>on</strong> to Asia, South America and down to Australia.Today, <str<strong>on</strong>g>Haflinger</str<strong>on</strong>g>’s make <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>ir home in 70 countries throughout <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>world; <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>Haflinger</str<strong>on</strong>g> has earned <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> sunshine like that which we’veseen here <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> last few days. Our next presentati<strong>on</strong> is mares in generati<strong>on</strong>s.Here we will examine <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> successi<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> generati<strong>on</strong>s as well, thistime <strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> female side. Whereas we looked at four generati<strong>on</strong>s <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g>stalli<strong>on</strong>s, here we examine five generati<strong>on</strong>s <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> mares. It is a specialview that I believe allows <strong>on</strong>e to see even more clearly than with <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>stalli<strong>on</strong>s <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> c<strong>on</strong>stancy, development and trend where we are actuallygoing. We now greet <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> generati<strong>on</strong>al successi<strong>on</strong> winner starting with <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>mare Rialta. Rialta, 25 years old, after whom is <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> mare Rijana,18 years old, both from Fohlenh<str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Ebbs, followed by Relie fromGerhard Berger from M<strong>on</strong>aco (11 years old), her daughter Rüga(6 years old) and lastly Rosaria, a yearling from Belgium owned byD<strong>on</strong>ny Verkammen. As you can see, <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>re are three nati<strong>on</strong>s united in this lineage.Generati<strong>on</strong>s not c<strong>on</strong>centrated in <strong>on</strong>e country, but ra<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>r a lineagespread over <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> world; I think that is a symbol <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> this presentati<strong>on</strong>.When <strong>on</strong>e observes <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> first mare, Rialta, who is 25 years old aspreviously stated, <strong>on</strong>e doesn’t see any indicators <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> this age. She171
<str<strong>on</strong>g>Haflinger</str<strong>on</strong>g> Pferde <str<strong>on</strong>g>Haflinger</str<strong>on</strong>g> weltausstellung 2010competes in <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> show now as she did before; we will see her thisafterno<strong>on</strong> in <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> driving school from saddle and she is still part <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>dressage quadrille. There she is currently <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> reserve, but she is stillbest suited now as she was before, diligently at work with <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> smallestand youngest children riders daily. L<strong>on</strong>gevity, and that pairedwith character and temperament. Generati<strong>on</strong>-lineage that is pro<str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g><str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> even more breeding lines, even more improvements in quality, even more modernity introduced in <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> breed – this is exactly whatwe wish to see. When <strong>on</strong>e examines this line, it’s as though <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> horses in <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> ringhere were cut from a mold: all have w<strong>on</strong>derful necks, even <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>oldest, all have well-defined wi<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>rs, all also have good top linesleading to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> loin area, perhaps naturally a little weak back in <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>oldest horse. But that also can’t be true as after over 15 foals, thismare had until three years ago <strong>on</strong>ly <strong>on</strong>e time no foal, which alsospeaks for <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> breed. When <strong>on</strong>e sees in her <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> dry, fine fundamentor when <strong>on</strong>e sees <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> l<strong>on</strong>g fetlocks, <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>n <strong>on</strong>e recognises <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> elasticity, springy suspensi<strong>on</strong> and for <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> rider, <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> comfort, in <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> movement.Of course, we also want to see <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> classic back, not just <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>l<strong>on</strong>g fetlocks. But <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> combinati<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> all <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>se individual pointsin a horse – that is what creates <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> end product <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> a all-aroundleisure horse and is what is truly represented by this line. Or naturallyalso <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> sec<strong>on</strong>d horse, <strong>on</strong>e generati<strong>on</strong> fur<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>r, here with <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>same neck, equally beautiful fr<strong>on</strong>t quarters and hindquarters thatdem<strong>on</strong>strate some improvements. Quality is also maintained in <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>third mare. This maintenance <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> quality within a horse generati<strong>on</strong>line, as shown in <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> mare Rijana who has already been presentedin four internati<strong>on</strong>al shows and has four times been rated as <strong>on</strong>e <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g><str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> first two horses and has been winner at two European shows– this dem<strong>on</strong>strates that this horse c<strong>on</strong>stantly maintains quality. Not experiencing a single high point, not <strong>on</strong>ce in <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>ir life havingsuccess at a single show, but ra<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>r enjoying successes c<strong>on</strong>stantlyover <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> course <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> nearly 20 years. We want that as well; not justfleetingly beautiful horses, but ra<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>r naturally natured <str<strong>on</strong>g>Haflinger</str<strong>on</strong>g>swho are raised as much as possible with <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> ability to live in a herdand move freely. This ensures that <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> horses are happy and c<strong>on</strong>tentand ensures <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>ir quality l<strong>on</strong>g-term. The same applies for <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>next generati<strong>on</strong> Relie. She was also named best <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> class twice inworld shows. She also dem<strong>on</strong>strates here over ten years <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> c<strong>on</strong>sistentquality. Relie is also active as a dressage quadrille horse andwith riding children. This mare was purchased by an internati<strong>on</strong>allyrenowned athlete for his children. He could have purchased a horsefrom any breed, but he purchased a <str<strong>on</strong>g>Haflinger</str<strong>on</strong>g> because he believedthat <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>Haflinger</str<strong>on</strong>g> was <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> best breed for children and because hebelieved that <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> future <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> horse breeding lie in this horse and in thisbreed. I believe that such breeders, such owners, who could affordto purchase any horse and wish to purchase <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> best horse in <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>world, have indeed d<strong>on</strong>e so by <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>Haflinger</str<strong>on</strong>g>.This pro<str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> is very, very important for us and <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>refore we’re proud<str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> our famous breeders who have chosen <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>Haflinger</str<strong>on</strong>g> breed. The next horse in line is Rüga, also a mare who can be seen in <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>show under saddle and with children. And we hope that with D<strong>on</strong>nyVerkammen in Belgium with <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> fifth generati<strong>on</strong> will also prove itselfin <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> future. When we are dealing with generati<strong>on</strong>s, <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>n naturally<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> development <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> our world shows is also a c<strong>on</strong>siderati<strong>on</strong>.172I want to extend my thanks in advance to all <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> exhibitors who havemade this world show truly a world show. There really are individualwinners, because a winner can <strong>on</strong>ly be a winner when <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>re are atleast 20 competitors in <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> show. Sport is nothing without competiti<strong>on</strong>.A breed competiti<strong>on</strong> is nothing if <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>re aren’t enough horses tocompete and at this show we really had plenty <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> competitors. The <str<strong>on</strong>g>World</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>Haflinger</str<strong>on</strong>g> Federati<strong>on</strong>, founded in 1975, also active in <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g><str<strong>on</strong>g>World</str<strong>on</strong>g> for <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> last 35 years, has today 29 member organisati<strong>on</strong>s.The first <str<strong>on</strong>g>Haflinger</str<strong>on</strong>g> world show, allocated by <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>World</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>Haflinger</str<strong>on</strong>g>Federati<strong>on</strong>, was in 1990. There were 61 stalli<strong>on</strong>s exhibited and 346mares, for a total <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> 407 horses. From <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>n forward, <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> momentumc<strong>on</strong>tinued upwards, but I believe that we have now come to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> absolutehigh point. In 1995, <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>re were 67 stalli<strong>on</strong>s and 569 mares, 2000had 90 stalli<strong>on</strong>s and 647 mares, in 2005, 101 stalli<strong>on</strong>s and a total <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g>692 exhibited horses. This year in 2010 we’ve set a new record with112 stalli<strong>on</strong>s and a total <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> 717 participating horses. For this, I wishto extend my most sincere thanks, for those who have come from allover <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> world to Ebbs: your appearance here is not your resp<strong>on</strong>sibility,but your pride in presenting your accomplishment. When <strong>on</strong>ehas seen and heard <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> internati<strong>on</strong>al competiti<strong>on</strong> atmosphere here,<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>n <strong>on</strong>e comes to understand how attractive <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>Haflinger</str<strong>on</strong>g> breed is:<strong>on</strong>ce more, my deepest thanks, also to our dear <str<strong>on</strong>g>Haflinger</str<strong>on</strong>g> friendsfrom Germany, Italy, Belgium, and many o<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>r nati<strong>on</strong>s from around<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> world. Thanks as well in particular to our spectators, some <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g>whom came here from <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Ne<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>rlands, who have been a w<strong>on</strong>derfuland fair audience that has helped create a great atmosphere. But also <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> reserve winner generati<strong>on</strong> line that’s coming to us nowdem<strong>on</strong>strates special qualities. Perhaps it isn’t quite so easy when<strong>on</strong>e becomes older: as I said yesterday, she is a year younger than<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> o<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>r first generati<strong>on</strong> mare, but some horses age earlier than o<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>rs.Cushing syndrome, perhaps not known to every<strong>on</strong>e, is an equinedisease that appears in older horses that is treatable, but not easilycured; this is why Annette appears today outfitted in a thick coat. However, this mare appears in <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> ring today with pride and a love <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g>life despite this, perhaps because <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> her progeny. Annette has beena frequent winner at world shows in <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> past but came in last place(24th) in her class in this show. Regardless, she appears with herprogeny here in this lively generati<strong>on</strong>al presentati<strong>on</strong>.In her time she was perhaps <strong>on</strong>e <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> most beautiful <str<strong>on</strong>g>Haflinger</str<strong>on</strong>g>mares in <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> world, though naturally today this is no l<strong>on</strong>ger <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> case. The back is weakened, but she exhibits a tremendous fertility rateand has w<strong>on</strong> world champi<strong>on</strong>ships. Behind her is <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> sec<strong>on</strong>d generati<strong>on</strong>:<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> mare Astra. We will see Astra ano<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>r two or three timestoday, and she w<strong>on</strong> best <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> class as well. She was, above all, <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> worldchampi<strong>on</strong> mare with <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> best progeny and was <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> winner in <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> generati<strong>on</strong>scompetiti<strong>on</strong>. I believe that such a mare is unique and she issomething special for me pers<strong>on</strong>ally: just a few days ago, I think <strong>on</strong>Wednesday, I gave an interview to a televisi<strong>on</strong> stati<strong>on</strong> and was askedby <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> interviewer, which horse is your favorite?
