ReinforcingFabricFor Use With Mapelastic 400or Mapelastic AquaDefenseDESCRIPTIONMAPEI’s Reinforcing Fabric is a ready-to-use, thin, flexible, alkali-resistant, nonwovenpolyester fabric. Use it for embedment with MAPEI’s Mapelastic 400, and foroptional use with MAPEI’s Mapelastic AquaDefense when installed under ceramic tileor stone on residential and commercial interior/exterior floors, walls and ceilings.Reinforcing Fabric is ideal for use over substrate areas that typically causewaterproofing problems such as cracks, coves, corners and areas around drains, and when used with Mapelastic 400 or Mapelastic AquaDefense. Reinforcing Fabricprovides a durable, reliable barrier to water migration into adjacent areas. It can easilybe cut to size with scissors or a razor knife, and has excellent compatibility with allMAPEI cement- or epoxy-based grouts and mortars.FEATURES AND BENEFITS• Compatible with Mapelastic 400 and Mapelastic AquaDefense waterproofingand Mapeband accessories – to address a wide variety of installations• Reduces total installation time by quickly absorbing Mapelastic 400 orMapelastic AquaDefense• Durable, flexible and lays flat, making it easy to install• Fast to install: easy to cut with scissors or razor knifeWHERE TO USEReinforcing Fabric is required when installing Mapelastic 400, but is optional for usewhen installing Mapelastic AquaDefense. See individual Technical Data Sheets (TDSs)for Mapelastic 400 and Mapelastic AquaDefense for specific uses.LIMITATIONSFor specific limitations, see individual TDSs for Mapelastic 400 or MapelasticAquaDefense.SUITABLE SUBSTRATESFor suitable substrates, see individual TDSs for Mapelastic 400 or MapelasticAquaDefense.SURFACE PREPARATION• All suitable substrates must be smooth, structurally sound and free of anysubstance that could prevent adhesion.• Do not use chemical means (acid etching or stripping) to prepare approvedsubstrates. Use mechanical methods only.• To remove any bond-inhibiting materials, concrete substrates should bemechanically cleaned and prepared by diamond-cup grinding or other engineerapprovedmethods to obtain the International Concrete Repair Institute (ICRI)concrete surface profile (CSP) of #2. When concrete requires more mechanicalpreparation, the profile will typically increase. In such cases, the surface can bemade smooth by applying coats of MAPEI’s Planipatch ® .• For other important surface preparation instructions, see individual TDSs forwaterproofing products. For other details, see MAPEI’s “Surface PreparationRequirements” document for tile and stone installation systems at www.mapei.com or contact MAPEI’s Technical Services Department.PRODUCT APPLICATIONFor specific application instructions, see individual TDSs for Mapelastic 400 orMapelastic AquaDefense.
