Data is transferred between the processorand the operator station adapter by immediate read and immediate write commands. The four functions of keyboard entry, print, tape read, and tape punch are controlledby separate I/O commands.Since the operator station is used for only relatively short periods of time, the motorin the operator station can be turned off and on by program control. The operator stationcommand descriptions below specify if the motor must be started before issuing thesecommands. An interruption request is presented tothe system but the response time is the result of a complex relationship involving systemprogramming, system hardware, and system operation. This interrelationship results inan interruption request that may occur from several microseconds to more than fourseconds after the command has been issued. Therefore, the programmer is cautionedagainst using time-dependent code.Note: This interruption request will occur even if the operator station motor is turnedoff at the operator station, or if the operator station power is turned off by the powerswitch.Condition code 2 is returned if the operator station adapter is busy or has an interruptionpending.
