It is used by academic institutions andprospective employers as a means of describing academic achievement.Three factors are used in computing the GPA: credit hours, pointvalue, and letter grade earned. Letters such as A, B, B+, and C have pointvalues. For example, if a student is enrolled in five courses carrying 4, 4, 6,3 and 5 credits and earns grades of B+, C-, A, D, and C respectively, his orher GPA for the semester would be calculated in the following manner:Letter Point GradeGrade Credits Value = PointsB+ 4 X 3.3 = 13.2C- 4 X 1.7 = 6.8A 6 X 4.0 = 24.0D 3 X 1.0 = 3.0C 5 X 2.0 = 10.022 57.0The GPA is calculated by multiplying the number of credits timesthe point value, then dividing the sum of the grade points (57.0 in theexample) by the sum of the credits (22 in the example). The GPA in theexample is 2.59.The cumulative GPA for all semesters the student has been at theInstitute may be calculated in the same manner by using total credits andtotal grade points.GraduationNew Hampshire Technical Institute holds one commencement ceremonyin May of each year.Except for those programs which are regularly scheduled to endduring the summer, students must achieve a 2.0 or higher GPA for allcourses required in the curriculum from which the student is graduatingto participate in the annual commencement ceremony.
