During the 2003-2004 academic year, morethan 35 students receiving Federal Work Study performed over 2,200hours of service. Following the development of the Alternative SpringBreak Club in 2000, over 70 students have traveled to either the RooseveltWarm Springs Institute for Rehabilitation in Georgia, or Green Mountain<strong>College</strong> in Poultney, Vermont.Counseling Services<strong>NHTI</strong>’s Counseling and Placement Department philosophy is toteach students how to identify and successfully achieve their educational,career, and life goals, and to enhance the student’s learning environmentthroughout the institution. Our primary goal is the teaching of strategieswhereby students can gain insight, solve problems, make decisions, changebehavior, resolve conflict, and accept responsibility. The counselors workwith individuals, in small groups, and in the classroom setting. Referralscan be made to local mental health professionals. Counseling services oncampus are available at no cost for students while classes are in session.Food Service<strong>NHTI</strong>’s food service provides meals and snacks at two campus locations.The Little Hall Cafeteria is open sevendays a week during the academic year (exceptholidays and vacations) serving threemeals a day Monday through Friday andtwo meals a day on Saturday and Sunday.Resident Hall students have a variety ofmeal and flex cash plans to choose fromand use the cafeteria as their primary dininglocation. The Sweeney Hall snack barprovides light meals, snacks and beverages,and is open daily. Dining Services also offersmeal and flex cash plan options to commutingstudents, faculty and staff that canbe used at both dining locations.Health ServicesThe Health Services office is located on the first floor of the StudentCenter. Office hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 p.m. Summerhours are 8:00 am to 4:00 p.m. Monday - Friday. Our health carestaff includes a nurse, a nurse practitioner and an off-site physician,having access to a broad range of specialists and emergency services in thelocal area. Students are encouraged to schedule an appointment. Walk-inswill be seen as soon as possible. Routine physicals, gynecological exams,immunizations and lab tests are available for a minimal fee, which may bepaid by cash, check or applied to the students tuition bill. Prescriptionsand referral services are the financial responsibility of the student. Someover-the-counter medications are provided free of charge from the office.<strong>NHTI</strong> offers a group rate from an independent insurance companyfor accident and sickness insurance. Information may be obtained throughthe Health Services Office. Insurance is required for all allied healthstudents and sport participants.Allied health students and students planning to participate in sportsmust be medically cleared through the Health Services Office prior toparticipation in clinical practicums or sport activity.The Health Services office is also a resource center where studentscan learn behaviors to help ensure wellness for their lifetime. Educationalworkshops and seminars are presented on various health topics pertinentto all students. For more information, contact the Health Services Officeat 603-271-7153.Intercollegiate Athletics<strong>NHTI</strong>’s primary emphasis is to provide high quality education, butthe <strong>College</strong> also recognizes that many students/athletes desire to experiencethe challenges of intercollegiate athletic competition. To that end,<strong>NHTI</strong> has developed a challenging program that offers the intercollegiatestudent-athlete an opportunity to compete on both regional and nationallevels, competing for New England and national championships. Underthe auspices of the Northern New England Small <strong>College</strong> Conference(NNESCC), the Yankee Small <strong>College</strong> Athletic Association (YSCAA),and the United States <strong>College</strong> Athletic Association (USCAA), teams competein men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s volleyball, andmen’s and women’s soccer as well as baseball and softball. Several teamshave enjoyed great success in the past, advancing to regional and nationaltournament championship events, including a national Division II USCAAMen’s Basketball Championship in 20<strong>05</strong>. Numerous <strong>NHTI</strong> student-athleteshave also earned All-American honors. Outdoorfacilities include soccer, baseball and softballfields, tennis, volleyball and basketball courts,and horseshoe pits. Activities include, but are notlimited to, basketball, volleyball, indoor soccer,flag football, ultimate frisbee, golf, softball, crosscountry and downhill skiing, tournaments andspecial events, aerobics, conditioning clinics andhealth seminars.Current students, faculty and staff are eligibleto use the Wellness Center facilities. A current<strong>NHTI</strong> ID card, which has been validated bythe Wellness Center and the Bursar’s Office, is required. Verification ofpayment or arrangement for a payment plan to satisfy all applicable <strong>NHTI</strong>fees is required and can be obtained through the Bursar’s Office.The City of Concord can boast at having some of the finest parksand recreation facilities in the State of New Hampshire. The departmentoffers a variety of programs, leagues, special events and instructionalprograms. The Concord area is conveniently located within a comfortabletravel distance to an abundance of recreational, cultural, social andentertainment opportunities statewide.<strong>NHTI</strong> Alumni AssociationThe <strong>NHTI</strong> Alumni Association exists to provide former students avariety of opportunities to stay connected to classmates and to the <strong>College</strong>.Alumni can benefit by sharing job leads and career advice as well asgaining access to continuing education. Alumni assist the <strong>College</strong> in therecruitment of prospective students, mentoring current students andpromoting <strong>NHTI</strong> and its graduates to prospective employers and thebroader community. <strong>NHTI</strong>’s alumni offer their ideas, experiences, expertiseand financial support that help keep <strong>NHTI</strong> growing and going strong.The Alumni Office produces a semi-annual newsletter, sends announcementsof <strong>NHTI</strong> events, and organizes gatherings of alumni bothon- and off-campus.
