This program, inwhich students may design their own curriculum, is especially appealingto those who have unique career or academic goals. The degree ofAssociate in Science in General Studies will be awarded upon successfulcompletion of all program requirements.Exploration OptionThe General Studies Exploration curriculum provides students withbroad general knowledge as well as an opportunity to explore an area ofconcentration. It allows flexibility for students who either have transfercredit or who wish to transfer to another two or four-year program.While students may custom-design their concentration area, they shouldselect these electives based on their intended fields of specialization.LIBERALARTSGeneral Studies might be right for you if you:• Would like to custom-design a degree program which meets yourgoals;• Have previously earned credits from one or more institutions;• Would like to combine one of our certificates (Paralegal, Accounting,Management, etc.) with other required credits to complete thedegree;• Seek entry into an NHTI program which has limited enrollment orfor which you need prerequisite courses; although transfer into theseprograms is not guaranteed, students who are successful in theGeneral Studies program strengthen their candidacy status; pleaserefer to page 79 for details regarding the process for requesting a change ofprogram;• Plan to transfer to another institution but would like to completesome of the general education requirements;• Would like to gain as many as 20 experiential learning credits foryour occupational experience;• Wish to explore the college experience without a definite careerpath in mind.56General Education Core(for both options)CreditsA. Depending on results ofassessment testing, students may be required to complete MT 103 prior toMT 120 (please note that MT 103 Algebra I - Part I, with a grade of “C”or higher, or the high school equivalent with a grade of “C” or higher, is theprerequisite for MT 120).** If the combination of experiential credit and certificate program coursestotals less than 35 credits, additional coursework must relate to the concentrationsubject area and must be approved by the General Studies departmenthead.Note:a minimum of 16 credits hours must be earned through instruction at NHTIwith a minimum of 8 credit hours in courses numbered at the 200-level.Specific Admission Requirements1.
