Classroom and clinical instructionare provided concurrently in all nursing courses.The nursing program is approved by the New Hampshire Board ofNursing. Upon graduation students are prepared to work as entry levelmembers of a multidisciplinary team providing care in a variety of healthcare settings. Graduates receive a Diploma in Practical Nursing and areeligible to apply for the National Council Licensure Examination forPractical Nurses (NCLEX-PN® Examination). Graduates may also applyfor the LPN - ADN Upward Mobility advanced placement optionafter completing the appropriate admissions process and satisfying thespecific admission requirements.All Practical Nursing courses must be completed within two (2)years of the date of entry into the program. Transfer credit for coursesequivalent in academic content and credit hours will depend upon thegrade obtained, course content, and the length of time since the coursewas completed. Contact the Admissions Office for information abouttransfer credit at (603) 271-7134. This program begins in January eachyear.Admission to the practical nursing program is very competitive. Selection isdetermined by a cumulative point system that is based on high school level prerequisitecourses and grades, applicable college courses and grades and <strong>NHTI</strong> assessmenttesting. Applicants are strongly encouraged to attend a group informationsession; please call the Admissions Office at 603-271-7134for details;2. Prior to the start of the clinical nursing courses, students arerequired to have on file in the Health Services Office (603-271-7153) documentation of: current medical insurance; a completephysical examination; current immunizations; current CPR certificationfor one and two person adult, infant and child. Professionalliability insurance is arranged by the <strong>College</strong> and will automaticallybe charged to the student’s account.3. Clinical facilities are located within a radius of 60 miles of<strong>NHTI</strong>.4. Depending on clinical site availability, students may be required to do analternative clinical rotation (day or evening).5. All students enrolled in a nursing course will be charged a $350/semester Nursing Clinical Surcharge. The following coursescarry this charge: PN 101, PN 102 and PN 103.Specific Admission RequirementsPractical Nursing1. High school Algebra I with a grade of "C" or higher OR<strong>NHTI</strong>’s MT 103 and MT 104 with grades of “C” or higher;2. High school biology course with lab with a grade of “C” orhigher;3. High school course in English with a grade of “C” or higher;4. Submit, on <strong>NHTI</strong> nursing reference forms, two referencesfrom professionals, supervisors or teachers;5. Satisfactory completion of <strong>NHTI</strong> assessment tests in math,reading comprehension and writing is required for admission;waivers may be granted for some the tests based onprevious college courses or test scores; information regardingtesting is available from the Admissions Office at 603-271-7134;6. Preference will be given to students whose applications arecomplete and received by the <strong>NHTI</strong> Admissions Office,with the exception of the assessment testing, no later than October7, 20<strong>05</strong> for admission consideration for the programbeginning in January 20<strong>06</strong>.Health, Character and Technical Standards, see page 48.HEALTHThough this curriculum is designed to be completed in the format listed, students may choose to take more time, depending on their individualcircumstances. Students who anticipate taking more time to complete the program are strongly encouraged to consult with their department head at thetime of registration each semester to ensure that prerequisite requirements are met and course selection is appropriate.45
