Internetwork troubleshootingwill include all seven layers of the OSI model from the applicationlayer down to the physical layer cabling. (Prerequisites: IT 254, IT256 and IT 258)IT 262 Network Security I 2-2-3This course is designed to give students the skills needed to identify andresolve network security issues. The course will provide students anintroduction to firewalls and other network security components thatcan be used to work together to create an in-depth defensive perimeteraround a Local Area Network (LAN). Students will learn how to: identifythreats; plan and design firewalls; develop a security policy; configurerouters, workstations, servers, switches and firewall equipment for variouspacket filtering and security measures; create user authenticationpolicies and methods; design and set up Virtual Private Networks (VNP);maintain and troubleshoot these systems. (Prerequisite: IT 150 and IT250)IT 270 Web Design and Development I 2-2-3Fundamentals of graphic design, as applied to the web, are discussed andweb sites created using an HTML web authoring tool. Topics include:web site planning and testing; web page layout; proper navigation; use ofcolor and images; web hosting; publishing to a server; promoting websites; web site accessibility; and legal issues in web design. Participantsreinforce their web design skills through the design, development andpublishing of their own web site design project. (Prerequisite: IT 102 orIT 108)IT 272 Web Design and Development II 2-2-3This course builds on the skills developed in Web Design and DevelopmentI with emphasis on advanced techniques that create animation, interactivity and the use of audio. During the class, students plan the“story” of their project and then use the techniques learned in classexercises to create an animated site with audio effects. Other topicsinclude: creating vector graphics; drop down menus; and publishingmultimedia sites. (Prerequisite: IT 270)IT 280 Windows Server Operating Systems 2-2-3The focus of this course is on the use of network operating systemsin a business environment. Topics include business analysis, matchingsystems needs within appropriate network configuration, data and systemssecurity measures for user groups sharing files and resources, printservices, network interconnectivity and related network managementissues. (Prerequisite: IT 108)IT 274 Internet (Electronic) Commerce 2-2-3In this course, students are introduced to both the business and technicalaspects of Internet (Electronic) Commerce. Included are: developing ane-commerce business strategy, identifying and prioritizing business processesfor electronic commerce, evaluating internal versus outsourcing ofelectronic commerce, marketing on the Internet and measuring the resultsof electronic commerce initiatives, electronic commerce site servers, automatedexchange of business information between an organization andits business partners, security considerations, and developing anorganization’s “Digital Nervous System” to exploit the advantages ofelectronic commerce. Selection of a project will be made with theapproval of the instructor and project sponsor. Students will meet witha project sponsor and instructor for the scope of work to be completed.(Prerequisites: IT 110 and IT 140)IT 294 Senior IT Project 1-4-3Capstone course for the Information Technology curriculum providingapplication of skills acquired to the development of computerized informationsystems. Students test their ability to organize and interpret data, develop and apply programmed solutions to problems and submit thoroughdocumentation of the task. (Prerequisites: IT 140 and IT 290)Landscape DesignLD 101 Plant Materials I 3-0-3Explores a select group of hardy ornamental plant materials, emphasizingevergreen and deciduous focal, intermediate and overstory trees. Landscapecharacteristics of individual plants will be stressed as they relate tolandscape design values. Basic plant identification is developed.LD 102 Plant Materials II 3-0-3Explores hardy evergreen and deciduous shrubs, ground covers and vines.Basic plant identification is developed and positive design characteristicsof individual plants is presented.LD 109 Landscape Surveying 2-2-3A course to familiarize students with the equipment, procedures andmethodology of modern surveying practices. It includes measurement ofdistance, elevation, angles and direction in the field as well as officecomputations for transverses and the description of parcels of land. Themethods of topographical surveying and mapping, construction surveyingand route location surveying for vertical and horizontal control arealso studied. (Prerequisites: high school Algebra I and Algebra II withgrades of “C” or higher or NHTI’s MT 108 and MT 109 both with gradesof “C” or higher)LD 112 Landscape Architectural Drafting andSketching 2-2-3The first semester of drafting is devoted to the basic mechanics of representingideas graphically. Drafting equipment is selected and its proper usetaught. Architectural lettering styles, drafting techniques, geometric construction, projection principles and drawing expression are the areas ofearly construction. Design considerations toward residential planning andlayout are studied for development of working plans and details. Lightconstruction methods are taught for developing framing plans and basicstructural calculations.LD 115 Landscape Architectural Design Theory 3-0-3This course introduces the student to the field of landscaping architecture.Lectures, reading and problem-solving exercises provide a basicoverview of historical, philosophical and technical aspects of the professionof landscaping architecture. The course will also explore how design, site environment and legislation affect the design process.LD 117 Small Scale Design Project 2-2-3A studio project involving a real site to develop techniques of site analysis, client interview and program development of a base sheet from fieldmeasurements and designing a site plan that corresponds to the client’sneeds, site conditions, human scale, and environmental contexts.
