Having received final approval, thedefinition will serve as a guideline for the next phase of the senior project.(Prerequisites: EL 110 and EN 125; corequisites: EL 102 and EL 210; orpermission of department head of Electronic Engineering Technology)EL 3<strong>06</strong> Senior Design Project 2-5-4This course is the culmination of two years of theoretical study in theelectronics engineering field and is intended to exercise and enhance thestudent’s practical competency in that field. Combined with its preparationcourse (EL 3<strong>05</strong>) each student will be involved with design, development,implementation, and testing of a curriculum related design as requiredby Project Definition developed by the student in EL 3<strong>05</strong>. Anaccurate record of time invested is to be kept, all work is to be documentedin a logbook, and regular progress reports are to be submitted. Asthe project nears completion, a technical write-up will be required as wellas a formal presentation of the project. (Prerequisite: EL 3<strong>05</strong>; corequisites:EL 215 and EL 251; or permission of department head of ElectronicEngineering Technology)EnglishEN 100 Introductory English 4-0-4Designed to prepare students for English Composition, this course coversthree basic areas: grammar and usage, paragraph development, and anintroduction to the writing process. The needs of individual students arestressed. The four institutional credits awarded for this course do not count towardgraduation requirements but are calculated into GPA. Students must receive agrade of “C” or higher in EN 100 to be eligible to enroll in EN 101English Composition.EN 101 English Composition 4-0-4Required of all freshmen, and designed to teach students to write clear,vigorous prose. An individualized approach which emphasizes the composingprocess is used. Available in Honors format.EN 102 Introduction to Literature 3-0-3An introductory survey exposing the student to representative worksfrom the major genre forms: fiction, poetry and drama. Available inHonors format.EN 104 Communication Systems within Organizations 4-0-4This course presents the fundamentals of human communications asapplied to organizations. Areas of study include verbal and written communication,observation, and listening skill development.EN 120 Communications 3-0-3Principles and techniques of personal and group communications skillsare developed. Topics include impromptu and prepared public speaking;language use; kinesics and paralanguage; listening skills. Available inHonors format.EN 121 Introduction to Film 3-0-3The art, history, technology and theory of the narrative motion picturefrom the silent period to the present.EN 125 Communication and the Literature ofScience and Technology 3-0-3Built around the theme of science and technology, this course focuses onimproving communication skills. Areas of study include critical reading,critical thinking, public speaking, interpersonal communication and writing.Topics of readings may vary and could include any of the following:physical and technical sciences; natural and health sciences; or socialsciences.EN 150 Introduction to Drama 3-0-3An introductory survey involving the study of drama as literature andperformance beginning with the Greeks and continuing throughShakespeare to the present.EN 160 Introduction to Poetry 3-0-3A course designed to make students aware of the aesthetic value ofpoetry and to develop their critical skills as readers. Included is an indepthstudy of the various genres and structural elements of poetry.Genres considered are sonnet, ode, elegy, ballad, epic, dramatic monologueand open form. Structural elements surveyed include imagery, sound,rhythm, rhyme, tone and diction.EN 210 British Literature I 3-0-3This course traces the development of British literature from the MiddleAges through the early eighteenth century and includes readings in poetry,fiction, essay, and drama. Authors’ works will be examined within thecultural, philosophical and political climate in which they were created.(Prerequisite: Successful completion of EN 101 or equivalent and anintroductory level literature course are highly recommended.)EN 211 British Literature II 3-0-3This course traces the development of British literature from the lateeighteenth century to the present. The poetry, fiction, essays, and dramasof several major authors of the Romantic, Victorian and Modern periodswill be studied. Authors’ works will be examined within the cultural,philosophical and political climate in which they were created. (Prerequisite:Successful completion of EN 101 or equivalent and an introductorylevel literature course are highly recommended.)EN 214 American Literature Survey I: to 1865 3-0-3An historically-based survey course covering American literature fromfirst (native) American literature to the Civil War. It is designed forEnglish majors and others interested in the character and history ofUnited States literature. Students read representative major, as well asminor, writers from various literary periods and movements. Readingswill be set in historical and cultural contexts. (Prerequisite: Successfulcompletion of EN 101 or equivalent and an introductory level literaturecourse are highly recommended.)EN 215 American Literature Survey II: 1865 - present 3-0-3An historically-based survey course covering American literature from1865 to the present. It is designed for English majors and others interestedin the character and history of United States literature. Studentsread representative major, as well as minor, writers from various literaryperiods and movements. Readings will be set in an historical and culturalcontext. (Prerequisite: Successful completion of EN 101 or equivalentand an introductory level literature course are highly recommended.)EN 221 Film Genres and Directors 3-0-3This course is an advanced, focused examination of the art, history andtheory of a body of narrative films, which may be related by genre,filmmaker, country, style, movement, theme and/or culture and ideology.The course utilizes viewings, lectures and class discussion and emphasizesfilm theory, criticism and history. NOTE: this course may be repeated forcredit as topics change, providing student earned a grade of “C” or better. (Prerequisite:Successful completion of both EN 101, or equivalent, and EN121 or permission of department head of English. An introductory levelliterature course is highly recommended)EN 251 Contemporary Drama 3-0-3A seminar discussion of major drama since the 19th century. Some playwrightsinclude Shaw, Miller, O’Neill, Albee, Pinter and Beckett.
