Waiver of any portion of either general <strong>NHTI</strong> admissionrequirements or specific program admission requirements due tospecial situations may be achieved only through consultation with thehead of the specific department and the Director of Admissions.A $10.00 non-refundable application fee is required. Candidatesaccepted into degree, diploma and some certificate programs must pay anon-refundable $100.00 tuition deposit within 30 days of acceptance.The following rules will guide the admission of students to NewHampshire Technical Institute:1. New Hampshire residents shall be given preference over thosenot domiciled in the state;2. Second priority shall be given to students qualifying under theNew England Regional Student Program; and3. Veterans shall be given preference over non-veterans when studentsof equal academic qualifications are considered.General Admission Requirements1. Be a high school graduate or the equivalent;2. Submit an application for admission and the $10.00 non-refundableapplication fee;3. Have official transcripts forwarded to <strong>NHTI</strong> by all secondary andpostsecondary institutions previously attended;4. Applicants who have earned a high school equivalency certificate(GED) must submit a copy of the certificate, including scores, aswell as transcripts reflecting completed school work and gradesprior to leaving school;5. Perform satisfactorily on any entrance examinations required by theacademic program to which admission is desired;6. Though not required for admission to any program, it is stronglyrecommended that the scores of one of the standardized nationalcollege admission tests (SAT or ACT) be forwarded to the AdmissionsOffice; test scores provide an additional piece of informationthat expands our knowledge of a student’s academic background;because standardized test scores are only one means of evaluatingapplicants, no specific minimum score is required; (students consideringtransfer to four-year institutions are especially urged to submitSAT scores since the new institution may require them);7. Arrange for personal interview if required; and8. Submit to Health Services such certification of good health by ahealth care provider as required by a specific program and <strong>NHTI</strong>before registering for classes.NOTE: IT IS THE APPLICANT’S RESPONSIBILITY torequest that official transcripts of previous study be mailed directly to theADMISSIONS OFFICE. These transcripts must be received prior toconsideration of the application.Send transcripts to:New Hampshire Technical InstituteAdmissions Office31 <strong>College</strong> DriveConcord, New Hampshire 03301-7412Specific Program RequirementsThough each program has specific academic prerequisites, one canmeet these prerequisites at <strong>NHTI</strong>. Students who do not meet the specificadmission requirements for their desired program may be offered admissionto the Associate in Science in General Studies program. Selectedcourses are designed to satisfy prerequisite course requirements for avariety of <strong>NHTI</strong> programs, assuming grades of “C” or better are earned.Depending on their intended major and academic background, studentsmay take, as part of their program, courses such as:# Introductory English# Pre-algebra and Algebra# Introductory Technical Mathematics# Introductory Biology with Lab# Introductory Chemistry with Lab# Pre-Engineering Technology Physics# Study StrategiesPlease contact the Admissions Office for details.Freshman AssessmentStudents who are entering programs at New Hampshire TechnicalInstitute are required to complete assessment testing before registeringfor classes. Testing may be waived based on performance on standardizedtests and/or grades in specific college courses. Department Heads ofacademic programs will use testing data to help advise students in courseselection. Both national and <strong>NHTI</strong> data indicate that students benefitfrom assessment and placement. Students who need to strengthen skills mayneed extra time to complete their programs. For more information, studentsmay contact Admissions at 603-271-7134, the Learning Center at 603-271-7725, or the Department Head of the program in which they areinterested or to which they have been admitted.A student may be eligible to substitute a higher-level course for thecourse prescribed in the curriculum if indicated by an evaluation of thestudent’s competencies. The substitution can be made only with the jointapproval of the student’s Department Head and the Department Headof the area offering the course. The approval form is available in theRegistrar’s Office.International StudentsIn addition to the General Admission Requirements and SpecificAdmission Requirements for the desired program, international studentsmust submit the following:1. Official English translation of all secondary school and universityacademic records;2. Applicants whose native language is not English must take the Testof English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and earn a score of 500or better (173 or better on the computer-based test); inquiries regardingthe test should be addressed to: TOEFL, Educational TestingService, Box 899, Princeton, NJ 08540, USA; students earningless than 500 on the TOEFL may be evaluated for language study*;3. Letter of support from the person(s) who will be financially responsiblefor the student; letter should include student’s name, intent toattend New Hampshire Technical Institute and the amount of moneyavailable, must be in English and funds must be stated in US dollars;4. Letter from the financial institution which holds funds of theperson(s) financially responsible for the student; statement shouldbe on official letterhead, indicate the sponsor’s and student’s names,the amount of money available for the student stated in US dollarsand be in English;5. Copies of current passport and immigration documents includingcurrent visa, Duration of Status (D/S) card, I-20, etc.;6. Health care in the United States is expensive; international studentsare strongly encouraged to maintain adequate health insurance coverageduring their studies. If necessary, policies are available forpurchase through <strong>NHTI</strong> Health Services.Dollar amounts promised by the sponsor and available in the sponsor’sbank account should be sufficient to cover a minimum of one year ofexpenses (out-of-state tuition, fees, room, board, books and miscellaneousexpenses). Before a Certificate of Eligibility for an F-1 visa (I-20)can be issued, applicants must have submitted all documents required tobe considered for admission into a program, be accepted into a programand have submitted the required TOEFL score and financial documents.*Applicants scoring less than 500 on the TOEFL may apply for the GeneralStudies program with an emphasis on ESL training for academic purposes.
