92 Grow NGV Annual Report 2003/04For nearly 150 years, the Victorian community has extendedgenerous financial and resource support to the NGV.Countless supporters give willingly each year of their time,their expertise, and their energy. Many also make generousdonations of gifts or money. The Australian businesscommunity, meanwhile, plays a crucial role in its financialsupport of gallery spaces, exhibitions and programs. All ofthese friends and benefactors have been touched by theNGV’s capacity to promote art, and to enrich the community itserves. Current and future generations remain in their debt.The recent building and redevelopment program shifted thefundraising focus from artworks to infrastructure. As 2003/04 draws to a close, and the construction phase concludes,NGV management is once again dedicated to raising funds toacquire outstanding artworks which enhance the Collectionand offer visitors a more complete understanding of differentartists and movements.
