92 Grow <strong>NGV</strong> <strong>Annual</strong> <strong>Report</strong> <strong>2003</strong>/<strong>04</strong>For nearly 150 years, the <strong>Victoria</strong>n community has extendedgenerous financial and resource support to the <strong>NGV</strong>.Countless supporters give willingly each year <strong>of</strong> their time,their expertise, and their energy. Many also make generousdonations <strong>of</strong> gifts or money. The Australian businesscommunity, meanwhile, plays a crucial role in its financialsupport <strong>of</strong> gallery spaces, exhibitions and programs. All <strong>of</strong>these friends and benefactors have been touched by the<strong>NGV</strong>’s capacity to promote art, and to enrich the community itserves. Current and future generations remain in their debt.The recent building and redevelopment program shifted thefundraising focus from artworks to infrastructure. As <strong>2003</strong>/<strong>04</strong> draws to a close, and the construction phase concludes,<strong>NGV</strong> management is once again dedicated to raising funds toacquire outstanding artworks which enhance the Collectionand <strong>of</strong>fer visitors a more complete understanding <strong>of</strong> differentartists and movements.
