GV90+ gas-fired water boiler — <strong>Boiler</strong> <strong>Manual</strong>Commonwealth of Massachusetts installationsCommonwealth of Massachusetts — When the boiler is installed within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts,the boiler must be installed by a licensed plumber or gas fitter. Read and comply with the instructions below.(a) For all sidewall horizontally-vented gas-fueled equipmentinstalled in every dwelling, building or structure used inwhole or in part for residential purposes, including thoseowned or operated by the Commonwealth and where theside wall exhaust vent termination is less than seven (7) feetabove finished grade in the area of the venting, including butnot limited to decks and porches, the following requirementsshall be satisfied:1. INSTALLATION OF CARBON MONOXIDE DETEC-TORS. At the time of installation of the side wall horizontalvented gas fueled equipment, the installing plumberor gas fitter shall observe that a hard wired carbonmonoxide detector with an alarm and battery back-upis installed on the floor level where the gas equipment isto be installed. In addition, the installing plumber or gasfitter shall observe that a battery operated or hard wiredcarbon monoxide detector with an alarm is installed oneach additional level of the dwelling, building or structureserved by the side wall horizontal vented gas fueledequipment. It shall be the responsibility of the propertyowner to secure the services of qualified licensed professionalsfor the installation of hard wired carbon monoxidedetectorsa. In the event that the side wall horizontally vented gasfueled equipment is installed in a crawl space or anattic, the hard wired carbon monoxide detector withalarm and battery back-up may be installed on thenext adjacent floor level.b. In the event that the requirements of this subdivisioncan not be met at the time of completion of installation,the owner shall have a period of thirty (30) daysto comply with the above requirements; provided,however, that during said thirty (30) day period, abattery operated carbon monoxide detector with analarm shall be installed.2. APPROVED CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTORS. Eachcarbon monoxide detector as required in accordance withthe above provisions shall comply with NFPA 720 and beANSI/UL 2034 listed and IAS certified.3. SIGNAGE. A metal or plastic identification plate shallbe permanently mounted to the exterior of the buildingat a minimum height of eight (8) feet above gradedirectly in line with the exhaust vent terminal for thehorizontally vented gas fueled heating appliance orequipment. The sign shall read, in print size no less thanone-half (1/2) inch in size, “GAS VENT DIRECTLY BE-LOW. KEEP CLEAR OF ALL OBSTRUCTIONS.”4. INSPECTION. The state or local gas inspector of theside wall horizontally vented gas fueled equipment shallnot approve the installation unless, upon inspection,the inspector observes carbon monoxide detectors andsignage installed in accordance with the provisions of248 CMR 5.08(2)(a) 1 through 4.(b) EXEMPTIONS: The following equipment is exempt from248 CMR 5.08(2)(a)1 through 4:1. The equipment listed in Chapter 10 entitled “EquipmentNot Required To Be Vented” in the most current editionof NFPA 54 as adopted by the Board; and2. Product Approved side wall horizontally vented gas fueledequipment installed in a room or structure separate fromthe dwelling, building or structure used in whole or inpart for residential purposes.(c) MANUFACTURER REQUIREMENTS — GAS EQUIPMENTVENTING SYSTEM PROVIDED. When the manufacturer ofProduct Approved side wall horizontally vented gas equipmentprovides a venting system design or venting systemcomponents with the equipment, the instructions providedby the manufacturer for installation of the equipment andthe venting system shall include:1. Detailed instructions for the installation of the ventingsystem design or the venting system components; and2. A complete parts list for the venting system design orventing system.(d) MANUFACTURER REQUIREMENTS — GAS EQUIPMENTVENTING SYSTEM NOT PROVIDED. When the manufacturerof a Product Approved side wall horizontally vented gasfueled equipment does not provide the parts for venting theflue gases, but identifies “special venting systems”, the followingrequirements shall be satisfied by the manufacturer:1. The referenced “special venting system” instructions shallbe included with the appliance or equipment installationinstructions; and2. The “special venting systems” shall be Product Approvedby the Board, and the instructions for that system shall includea parts list and detailed installation instructions.(e) A copy of all installation instructions for all Product Approvedside wall horizontally vented gas fueled equipment, all ventinginstructions, all parts lists for venting instructions, and/or allventing design instructions shall remain with the applianceor equipment at the completion of the installation.34Part number 550-142-054/1211
