GPS Rules of CompetitionSECTION A: CODE OF BEHAVIOUR –MATCH DAYAdapted from ‘Fair Play in <strong>School</strong> Sport– Code of Behaviour’: Australian <strong>School</strong>sSports Council.Players, coaches, parents, spectators andofficials are encouraged to familiarisethemselves with the GPS Codes ofBehaviour that apply to all GPS activities.PLAYERS1. Play by the rules.2. Cooperate with and respect gameofficials and their decisions.3. Abstain from verbal abuse,distraction, or provoking of officialsor other players – see section onSledging on next page.4. Treat all players as you would like tobe treated and respect the propertyof others.5. Leave the field immediately andwithout dissent, when given out.6. As an incoming batsman, pass thedismissed player on the field ofplay and go directly to your battingposition without conversation.7. Remain off the pitch area prior tothe match and avoid damage to theplaying area during the match.8. Abstain from excessiveencouragement of bowlers / teammatesbetween deliveries.9. When batting, be ready to bat whenthe bowler is at his mark, and, whenbowling, complete your over withoutdelay.COACHES1. Set a good example for all players.2. Encourage and create opportunitiesto develop individual and team skills.3. Ensure your players are friendlytowards officials and opponents.4. Remove from the field of play, anyof your players whose behaviour isunacceptable.PARENTS AND SPECTATORS1. Provide a model of good behaviourfor all players.2. Demonstrate courtesy towardsall players, all officials, and allspectators.3. Encourage honest effort, skilledperformance, and team loyalty.4. Let game officials conduct the matchwithout interference yet be willing toprovide assistance if requested.ADMINISTRATORS AND OFFICIALS1. Ensure the equipment and conditionsare safe for the skill level of the boysinvolved.2. Ensure everyone involved, includingparents, understands theirresponsibilities regarding fair playand appropriate behaviour.3. Officiate without bias, emphasiseskill and enjoyment, encourage bothteams, and set a good example.4. Be consistent, courteous, and helpfultowards all participants.5. Ensure that the ‘spirit of the game’ isnot lost by overcalling violations.6. Ensure that coaches and officialsprovide adequate supervision of theplayers.16
