Playing and PreparationOverview 2011Mental1. Get players to have and knowtheir individual performanceroutines (eg. Consistent run upfor Bowlers, Consistent set upfor Batters and Fielders move inwith bowlers/ hands up ready)2. Develop team rules for conduct,dress, warm ups, training andplaying.TechnicalCricket is a skill game requiringhigh levels of technique. To ensuresuccess the following key technicalaspects need to be reinforced:1. Batting: Setup with centremarked, grip, stance and backliftcorrect.Control bat with top hand.Footwork either forward or back2. Pace Bowling: Run up - efficientrunning technique and inline with target.Action – compact and in linewith target.Seam – keep the seam uprightto allow movement.3. Spin Bowling: Run up – relativelystraight and relaxed.Action – strong front arm, highrelease point to allow over spinon ball4. Fielding: Move in with thebowler in an athletic position/hands open and upPhysical1. Use TSS warm up plan (overleaf)2. R.I.C.E. and D.R.A.B.C. allinjuries and report any incidents3. Manage pace bowler’sworkloads so they are notbowling more than two sessionsa week at training.Tactical1. Develop and support effectivecaptains who lead by skill,character and proactive decisionmaking. Give them the chanceto lead.2. In training, provide activitiesthat enable players to makesmart tactical decisions. (eg.Centre Wicket Scenarios, GameSense Net sessions) Discuss theirsolutions with them.3. Know the rules of the GPSCricket Competition.4. Our processes in Warm Up andGame Day is to:a. Bowl: “consistently hitting thetop of off stump”b. Bat: “straight and conservativeearly” then look to “hit theball into gaps” and “run hardbetween wickets”c. Field: “with players positionedfor good bowling”, “attack theball” and “be busy supportingyour team”10
