The event took place <strong>at</strong> the Black Bear Course, which was designed byfamed architect, Jack Kurlander, as well as PGA Instructor David Glenz. The course fe<strong>at</strong>ures diverse terrain onthe course, with some holes showcasing open fairways, and others showing forest backgrounds surrounded byw<strong>at</strong>er. S<strong>at</strong>urday’s play proved challenging for the junior golfers due to light rain, and high winds, while onSunday the sun broke though to make for an enjoyable day of golf.In the Boys 16-19 Division, 18 holes were not enough to determine a winner. AfterS<strong>at</strong>urday’s opening round, Frank Szucs of Brookside, NY found himself <strong>at</strong>op theleaderboard with a 2-over-par 74. Heading into the final round, Mike Amole ofHuntingdon Valley, PA and Christopher Swift of New Canaan, CT had one thing ontheir mind and th<strong>at</strong> was to c<strong>at</strong>ch the leader. Swift’s 77 and Amole’s 75 turned out to beenough to c<strong>at</strong>ch the first round leader and head back out on the golf course for theSudden De<strong>at</strong>h playoff. On the first playoff hole, Amole’s birdie chip lipped out,Swift’s birdie try fell short while Szucs birdie putt found the bottom of the cup for hisfirst <strong>IJGT</strong> victory in the older division.After the round, Frank had this to say about his victory: “I was playing well coming into this event. My ballstriking was good; I hit 14 of 18 greens on S<strong>at</strong>urday.”In the Boys 13-15 Division, Ben K<strong>at</strong>z of New Canaan, CT shot consecutive rounds of 81 forthe title. K<strong>at</strong>z really got his momentum going on Hole No. 7 after he chipped in for birdie.Finishing alone in second place was Robert Seebold of Danville, PA with rounds of 88 and 75.Nick Marotta of Monroe, NY would take third place honors after posting rounds of 89 and 75.K<strong>at</strong>z had this to say on Sunday: “I am very excited about this win because I did not play wellin my last <strong>IJGT</strong> event. The key for me today was my driver and th<strong>at</strong> I made a lot of goodputts.”The Boys U-12 Division Hartej Gill of Monroe Township, NJ fired an impressive 2-under par 70 th<strong>at</strong> c<strong>at</strong>apulted him to the top of the leaderboard and the victory. Gillheaded into the final round having to make up three strokes on the leader after shootinga 6-over-par 78. It did not take long for him to realize th<strong>at</strong> today might be the day. Onhis first hole of the day, Gill drained a 50 foot putt th<strong>at</strong> got the momentum going.Taking second place honors was Curren Mody of Monmouth Junction, NJ, shootingrounds of 76, and 77 while third place honors would go to Willis Hyunh of Syosset,NY shooting rounds of 75 and 83.


On his win Gill had this to say, “Gill credits his win to his excellent putting, he made eagle on the par 5, HoleNo. 6. He also credits, his mental game by staying composed, and never getting ahead of himself.In the Girls U-19 Division, Tina Chang of Mineola, NY took the victory after posting roundsof 96, and 84. She found herself in third place after the opening round but a steady back ninewould seal the deal. Chang would par 5 of her last 6 holes th<strong>at</strong> made all the difference onSunday. Finishing in second place was Christina Paulsen of Ridgewood, NJ with a finalround of 88. <strong>Round</strong>ing out the division for third place was Jennifer Smith of WhitehouseSt<strong>at</strong>ion, NJ.The <strong>IJGT</strong> would like to congr<strong>at</strong>ul<strong>at</strong>e the winners of this week’s low round belt buckle competition in the Boys16-19 Division, Jacob Goldenring (73); Boys 13-15 Division Robert Seebold, and Nick Marotta (75); Boys U-12 Division Hartej Gill (70); and in the Girls U-19 Division Tina Chang (84).# <strong>IJGT</strong> #Title Sponsors include: The Hank Haney Intern<strong>at</strong>ional Junior Golf Academy, and GolfWorld.The <strong>IJGT</strong> was founded in 1995 for junior golfers ages 11-19.
