Promoting sound regulatory frameworksThe result of this work will assist in promoting sound regulatory frameworks in internationaltrade by using scientific knowledge. With a view to promoting maximum application ofong>Codexong> standards, this work will provide harmonized regulations for developed anddeveloping countries, leading to enhanced fair trade.Goal 2. Promoting widest and consistent application of scientific principles and risk analysisThis work will help establish risk-management options based upon scientific evaluation.Goal 3. Strengthening ong>Codexong> work-management capabilitiesThe establishment of a maximum level for arsenic in rice is a way to manage risks associatedwith the consumption of highly-contaminated staple food.Goal 4. Promoting maximum application of ong>Codexong> standardsDue to the international nature of this problem, this work will support and embrace all aspectsof this objective by accompanying participation of both developed and developing countriesto conduct the work.6. Information on the relationship between the proposal and other existing ong>Codexong>documentsThis new work is recommended in the Discussion Paper on a Maximum Level for Arsenic inrice presented and discussed at the 5 th Session of ong>Codexong> ong>Committeeong> on Contaminants inFoods.7. Identification of any requirement for any availability of expert scientific adviceIt is not foreseen.8. Identification of any need for technical input to the standard from external bodiesNone9. The proposed time line for completion of the new work, including the starting date,proposed date for adoption at Step 5 and the proposed date for adoption by theCommission1. Subject to approval by the Commission, the proposed draft Maximum Level forArsenic in rice will be considered by the 6 th Session of the CCCF with a view to itsfinalization in 2013.
