Housing OverviewWhile your family member is participating in the program, they will learn more than <strong>Disney</strong> Guestservice skills and leadership qualities. They will have the opportunity to be independent and learn toget along with others who may be very different from them. We frequently hear our former participantssay they truly changed during their program; they became more confident, secure and outgoing. Webelieve this is an important part of the overall program experience.Carnegie Plaza features a long list of amenities, is home to the <strong>Program</strong>s Office and offers nighttimesecurity and parking/bus escort from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. nightly.The <strong>Program</strong>s Office is located in Carnegie Plaza #300. Here, participants can meet with our <strong>Program</strong>sOffice staff to discuss roommate concerns or anything else related to their overall program experience.They can also sign up for activities and borrow a variety of loaner equipment such as irons and grocerycarts, DVDs and games.Below is an overview of many of the components associated with the program living experience. Weinvite you to review this information at your leisure, and keep this guidebook as a reference during yourfamily member’s program.Accountable Mail• We ONLY accept packages sent by UPS (United Parcel Service) and Federal Express in the<strong>Program</strong>s Office.• The U.S. Postal Service does not deliver directly to our office unless they have small packagesto deliver and no space is available inside individual mailroom boxes or if there is anincomplete address listed on any mail. Packages are delivered by the <strong>Program</strong>s Office directlyto apartments at the participant’s own risk and mail with incomplete addresses will be returnedto sender. We recommend you always include your family member’s apartment number in theiraddress.• The USPS will attempt to deliver large packages in the larger mailboxes located in the first floorlobby. Participants will receive a key to access these boxes if their package does not fit in theapartment box.• FedEx will attempt to deliver to individual apartments. If a signature is required, the <strong>Program</strong>sOffice will sign if your family member is not available unless it requires a direct signature fromthem. In that case, they will post a notice on their door and make a second attempt.*Students will receive a text message to notify them if their package is in the <strong>Program</strong>s Office.Apartment Relocation Requests/Housing-Related QuestionsParticipants can stop by the <strong>Program</strong>s Office, Carnegie Plaza #300, if they would like to make arequest to move apartments. Due to limited housing availability, we may or may not be able to grantmove requests.Community EventsA variety of social, recreational and educational events will be planned for all our participants.InspectionsInspections are scheduled and residents are notified in advance. These inspections are held to checkthe general cleanliness of the apartment, to assess the condition of the furniture, carpets, etc., andalso to check in with roommates to see how everyone is getting along. Residents who fail to pass aninspection may be required to pay a fee for a professional cleaning service.Loaner EquipmentA variety of loaner equipment such a irons and ironing boards and grocery carts is available tocheck out at the <strong>Program</strong>s Office. Additionally, DVDs and games, ping pong paddles, ping pongballs, and foosballs are available for use on tables in the Carnegie Plaza Courtyard.5Housing Overview


Commuter Assistance After HoursOCTA Buses ceases operation between 1:10 a.m. and 4:00 a.m. each day with the last busdeparting the East Shuttle Area stop at 1:10 a.m.<strong>Program</strong><strong>GUIDE</strong>If participants are scheduled a shift that will not accommodate the 1:10 a.m. pick up and they do nothave an alternate source of transportation, they can follow these steps to request taxi transport toCarnegie Plaza:1. Call the Commuter Assistance line at 866-758-7433, press option 1 and then option 1again, or use any of the Commuter Assistance ring down phones that are available throughoutthe back stage areas of the Park.2. Identify yourself as a College <strong>Program</strong> Housing Cast Member.3. You will be prompted to provide your name, <strong>Disney</strong> ID number and the reason for the ride.4. Confirm that your destination address is The Carnegie Plaza Apartment complex at 180 W.Center Street Promenade.5. You will be picked up at one of the following locations:• Valet/taxi drop off area in front of ESPN Zone• Grand Californian Hotel Valet area• Paradise Pier Hotel Valet area• Downtown <strong>Disney</strong> Valet loop• Harbor Pointe (Gate 8)• TDA at the visitor Parking lot6. Yellow Cab will be dispatched at no charge to participants and will arrive within 10to 15 minutes to this location.NOTE: This process is intended for students completing a shift only. Safety and Weather PreparednessThe safety of the participants living in our housing is our number-one priority. We have housedparticipants in our <strong>Program</strong>s for many years and continue to evaluate security needs and makeappropriate enhancements as necessary.We have developed Community Codes, which are guidelines for our participants living in our housing.For safety reasons, security phone numbers are listed in the communal areas within the apartment andon page 3 of the <strong>Program</strong> Guide each Cast Member receives when they arrive. All participants attenda mandatory Housing Welcome Session as a part of their check-in process. In this meeting, Leadersdiscuss the Community Codes, how and when to contact security, and our no-tolerance policies forunderage drinking, drugs and weapons.There is also a <strong>Program</strong>s Office to help participants who are experiencing challenges with work,as well as with roommates, co-workers, family members and friends.Earthquake Preparedness – CaliforniaEarthquakes are not unfamiliar to the southern California area and can occur without notice.Our Parks Communications teams and Carnegie Plaza Management (CIM) have a comprehensiveEmergency Response and Communication Plan to provide immediate aid and information to ourresidents following an earthquake or any other unexpected emergency situation.You can rest assured that the safety and security of our participants are our top concern. Here are three of the most popular methods of paycheck management among our participants:Option 1: Open an account with Partners Federal Credit Union.• Open a savings or savings/checking account• Order an ATM or debit card• Set up a direct-deposit process to a Partners Federal Credit Union accountParticipants also can visit a Partners Federal Credit Union branch to open an account.Option 2: Set up direct deposit to a current bank accountParticipants can arrange for direct deposit online.Option 3: Collect a paper check each payday and cash it (for a small fee)wherever they choose.Various grocery stores offer check-cashing services.9Housing Overview


10<strong>Program</strong><strong>GUIDE</strong>EducationOur education program is designed to give participants a comprehensive, experiential-learningopportunity which will provide them an unparalleled enhancement to their academic and professionalcareers.Participants’ ability to guide their learning is what makes <strong>Disney</strong>’s Internships & <strong>Program</strong>s morethan just a work opportunity. While on the <strong>Program</strong>, participants choose from multiple educationalopportunities to incorporate into their program to enhance their experience.The Education component is a requirement of your family member’s program experience and theymay be able to earn college credit for taking the courses. Participants will enroll in one class per termbased on their program length and school requirements.Collegiate CoursesEach of the Collegiate courses are recommended for credit by the American Council on Education(ACE). Students have required textbook readings, research papers, and group projects. The AmericanCouncil on Education recommends each of the following courses for three semester hours of credit. Eachof these courses consists of 11 sessions, meeting once per week for three to four hours in length.This is a mandatory part of your family member’s program experience and they may be able to earncollege credit for taking the courses. Participants will enroll in one class per term based on theirprogram length.Corporate AnalysisThis course provides an organizational exploration of the company and covers a variety of topicsincluding its corporate history, structure, governance, performance, and culture. In addition, studentswill learn more about our company’s concepts around innovation & technology, globalization, history &heritage, community responsibility, and diversity & inclusion.Marketing YouThrough participation in this course students learn how to market their skills of communication,customer service, problem solving, conflict resolution, decision-making, self-management, and creativethinking. Key elements include the development of a career focus and a personal marketing plan thatencompasses the creation of a cover letter, résumé, and networking strategy. Students must pay forcourse materials and textbook.Seminar CoursesThe Seminar courses are designed to share <strong>Disney</strong>-specific information with the students, provide anoverview of our Lines of Business and offer networking opportunities with <strong>Disney</strong> executives and leaders.Each of these series consists of nine to eleven sessions, meeting once per week for three hours in length.Professional Development Study: The Business of Show BusinessThe purpose of this class is to provide the opportunity to gain a basic understanding of the lines ofbusiness that comprise the <strong>Disney</strong>land ® Resort; learn more about the many career options availablewithin each line of business; and gain an insight into the presenters’ personal career development.Each class is led by a different group of <strong>Disney</strong> senior management.Leadership Speaker’s SeriesThis unique offering allows participants to hear executives (VPs/Senior Directors) share their stories ofchallenges and triumphs as a leader. Participants will learn what each speaker believes makes a goodleader, how experiences are translated into leadership skills, and teachable moments from the speaker’sexperiences. By learning how our executives have made a difference as leaders in their work andcommunity, participants will discover success strategies they can apply to their own lives and careers.


Blended Learning SeriesThe Blended Learning Series combines traditional classroom education with out-of-class learningopportunities encouraging participants to experience aspects of the company as a learning laboratory.Participants will engage in group and individual learning activities designed to expand their knowledgeand understanding of a variety of topics. Through self discovery and integrated learning opportunities,participants will develop a greater understanding of the company by exploring such topics as businessleadership, history and heritage, and corporate responsibility. This series is eleven weeks with in andout of class experiences.Additional Learning OpportunitiesThe <strong>Disney</strong>land ® Resort already has many additional learning resources in place for all CastMembers. Many of these activities are held at the <strong>Disney</strong> University (DU) and may be appliedtoward receiving college credit. Students can view them through the <strong>Disney</strong> Development Connectionon the Hub.<strong>Disney</strong> Learning Centers<strong>Disney</strong> Learning Centers are unique gathering places with locations throughout <strong>Disney</strong>. Students mayutilize them to write papers, complete independent study projects, or build professional portfolios.Resources include:• Books• Audiotapes/Audio CDs• Videos/DVDs• MagazinesAcademic Field ExperiencesThe Academic Field Experiences are offered periodically for all College <strong>Program</strong> students. It’s our intent to provide them an opportunity to join usbefore or after work or on a day off for some free food, games, dancing and fun!On the following page is a brief overview of some of the activities we have hosted recently.Backstage ToursA behind the scenes look at some of our very famous attractions!End of <strong>Program</strong> CelebrationTo celebrate our College <strong>Program</strong> participants and all of their dedication and contributions, wehost a special event where they will receive their Mickey Mouse graduation ears and completioncertificates.Grocery BINGOThis event is always very popular where students who are the first to get BINGO win a full bag offree groceries.Movie NightsWe supply the snacks, beverages and a free flick!Or they can take advantage of our many <strong>Disney</strong> Difference offerings!As a Cast Member, your family member can enjoy a large variety of discounts. The following are justa sample of the services and offerings:Discount Tickets• Tickets for area attractions such as Sea World and Six Flags are available for Cast Members atreduced prices. Tickets can be purchased at a TEAM Center.• Discounted movie tickets are available at TEAM Centers for local movie theatres and other localevents/attractions.• Some retailers in the Downtown <strong>Disney</strong>® District offer Cast Member discounts. Cast Membersshould check with individual retailers for participation.<strong>Disney</strong>land ® Resort Experiences• Admission to <strong>Disney</strong>land ® Park• Admission to <strong>Disney</strong> California Adventure® Park• Resort hotel special rates: Cast Members may book discounted rooms at the<strong>Disney</strong>land Resort for their use or for friends and family.


You can help your family member besuccessful in the program!Here are the best ways to help your family member have the best possible experience:1. Know your family member’s resources.Your family member’s leader is one source for information. If he or she cannot talk to his/herleader about an issue, we recommend talking to another leader in the area or a member of the<strong>Program</strong>s Office team.2. Advise him or her to refer to the <strong>Program</strong> Guide.All participants receive a <strong>Program</strong> Guide that contains information that will be pertinentthroughout their program, including their address and phone number, apartment amenities,an overview of education, <strong>Disney</strong> Difference offers and services, and much more.3. Understand the Community Codes.All participants are held accountable for following specific rules while living in housing. Helpyour son or daughter understand that he/she can be sent home for violating these rules.4. Stress the importance of attendance.We hire our participants to perform a role and we are counting on them showing up to work,being on time and making magic for our Guests. The value gained from this experience isimmeasurable; however, it’s only as valuable as the effort your family member puts in toit. Help him or her understand the importance of being responsible. Calling in to work isunacceptable and can result in discipline, not excluding termination.5. Encourage active participation in Education offerings.This is a mandatory part of your family member’s program experience and they may be ableto earn college credit for taking the courses.6. Encourage them to take advantage of networking opportunities.We employ Cast Members in hundreds of different lines of business. There is definitelysomeone your family member can talk to and learn from.7. Advise them to participate in special College <strong>Program</strong> events.Most participants tell us they make life-long friends during their program. We try to provide asmany opportunities as possible by planning movies nights, Grocery BINGO and more Castexclusiveevents.8. Remind them to become familiar with The Hub.The Hub is our company’s internal online resource for accurate, timely and relevantinformation. It’s a great way to stay in touch and up to date on all things happening atthe <strong>Disney</strong>land ® Resort. Participants can read company news and announcements, makediscounted <strong>Disney</strong> resort reservations, view <strong>Disney</strong> Difference offerings and more.9. Encourage them to engage in <strong>Disney</strong> VoluntEARS opportunities.Participants will learn about volunteer opportunities within the community each week in ourCommunity Update or by visiting the Hub.13Helping your Family Member

Interest them in joining a Diversity Resource Group.Our company values diversity and offers Cast Members many opportunities to makeconnections with others and have a voice in the way we conduct business. Diversity ResourceGroups usually meet monthly and are open to all Cast Members.11. Advise them to stay updated.We send weekly e-mails to all program participants that feature information of interest to them,such as College <strong>Program</strong> events, Cast discounts and ideas for low-cost ways to spend days off.Your family member will not want to miss one opportunity – so tell them to keep their eyes andears open!Frequently Asked Questionsfor Family & FriendsHow will my family member know where the nearest medicalfacilities are?Each participant receives a <strong>Program</strong> Guide and it contains a wealth of information, including listsof the nearest hospitals and urgent care facilities.My family member will have a car. What will he/she need to get avehicle decal?To park the vehicle at our housing property, participants must complete a Parking Agreementprovided by us prior to their arrival and required by the City of Anaheim upon arrival. Oncecomplete, all participants will receive a vehicle decal and assigned parking space.Will my family member have any vacation time?Your child has agreed to “full availability” during his/her program. Participants will work anaverage of 28-32 hours each week, but may be scheduled additional hours during peak attendanceperiods in our operation. Participants usually get two days off each week; however, they may notbe consecutive, and they typically work weekends and holidays. Your child may be able to ask forspecific days off without pay or switch shifts with a co-worker to accommodate the request for timeoff. We recommend that all Cast Members maintain an excellent record at work – no calling in, notardiness, etc.What learning resources are available?There are two collegiate courses currently offered at the <strong>Disney</strong>land ® Resort and each has beenrecommended for academic credit by the American Council on Education. We also offer seminarcourses designed to give students an overview of Line of Business at the <strong>Disney</strong>land Resort aswell as networking opportunities with <strong>Disney</strong> leaders. In addition, there are many other learningopportunities available to all students including Academic Field Experiences, the College <strong>Program</strong>Alumni Speaker Series, and various online/self-paced offerings and other personal and professionalresources available through the <strong>Disney</strong> University Libraries. Further information can be found underthe education section of this guide.


What kind of discounts do Cast Members receive?Once participants attend <strong>Disney</strong> Traditions and obtain their Cast Member ID, they will enjoy freeadmission to our <strong>Disney</strong>land ® Resort theme parks. They also receive a Cast Member Main EntrancePass that allows them to admit three Guests into the park on sixteen different occasions duringthe year. Based on availability, Cast Members may receive up to 40 percent off <strong>Disney</strong> resortaccommodations for family and friends. They also receive merchandise and dining discounts at most<strong>Disney</strong>land shops and restaurants. Certain area businesses offer discounts on products and serviceswhen Cast Members show their Cast Member ID.How can I get transportation to the airport?There are several shuttle services in the area that provide transportation to local airports.Directions to nearby airports:John Wayne Airport – Santa Ana, CA1. Continue onto World Way, LAX will be on the rightHow are participants placed into apartments?Roommates are selected based on a number of factors, including arrival and departure dates, worklocation, gender, whether they are under or over 21 years of age, and program season. <strong>Disney</strong> College<strong>Program</strong> participants may have also had the opportunity to sign up for a roommate matching processin which they were matched to another participant prior to arrival. Once matched, the participantsreceived the name and e-mail address of one of their roommates for them to connect with and discussarrival plans, etc.Can participants change apartments?If a resident wants to move out of the apartment, he/she may discuss options with our <strong>Program</strong>sOffice.What is a “wellness” or a “non-wellness” apartment?Residents under the age of 21 will automatically be placed into a wellness apartment, in whichalcohol is prohibited. Students over the age of 21 will be placed into a non-wellness apartment, butmay request a wellness apartment and can be placed there as long as there is availability.Are there any medical facilities on property that are availableto participants?Our Parks and Resorts Health facility is open to Cast Members to treat illnesses or injuries that occuron the job. Participants that require treatment for non-occupational injuries or illnesses may visit one ofthe many nearby walk-in clinics. Is there a tuition fee for the <strong>Disney</strong> Courses?The <strong>Disney</strong> College <strong>Program</strong> does not charge a tuition fee for the courses we offer, but studentsenrolled in Collegiate courses will be responsible for textbook and course material costs, which rangefrom $12 - $24 per course. If a student is earning credit for the education courses, his or her schoolmay charge tuition/enrollment fees.16<strong>Program</strong><strong>GUIDE</strong>Can a participant change jobs?No; unfortunately we have limited roles available in each line of business. The recruiter has reserveda spot for the participant in the role indicated in their invitation. This role reservation was madebased on the roles the participant indicated they were receptive to on the Role Checklist and duringtheir interview.What are participants expected to wear to <strong>Disney</strong> Traditions?Participants often ask what attire is appropriate for <strong>Disney</strong> Traditions, the training class all newCast Members must attend. While attending this class, participants must adhere to the <strong>Disney</strong> Lookguidelines for non-costumed Cast Members as outlined below.Once assigned to their work location, Cast Members will be expected to follow the guidelines in the<strong>Disney</strong> Look Book for costumed Cast Members.WOMENAcceptable• Professional options for women include dress pants with a classic-styleblouse or sweater, skirted or pants suit, dress with or without a jacketand business-style walking shorts with a blouse and jacket or vest.• Clothing should be neat, pressed and conservative in nature.• Business-style shoes are required. Shoes should be fully enclosed or mayhave one of the following: a small peep-toe, sling back, or open back.• Sleeveless tops and dresses are permitted provided the sleeve width isno less than 3 inches.• Professional style mid calf Capri pants.• Hair must be neatly arranged in a conservative style.• Hair color and highlights must be natural looking, well maintained andcomplementary to skin tone.NOTE: Highlights should be no more than two shades difference from thebase hair color and must be well blended over the entire head.• Nail polish must be complementary to your skin tone and may containno decor. Nails must not exceed ¼ inch beyond tips of fingers.Unacceptable• NO denim, spandex or sheer fabrics.• NO dress or skirt length shorter than three inches above the kneecap.• NO tank tips, spaghetti straps or other casual styles.• NO cotton twill, cargo, leggings or other casual styles of Capri pants.• NO polo-style shirt, T-shirts, extreme graphics or non-company logos.• NO sandals, athletic shoes, platform shoes, cowboy boots or flip-flops.• NO jewelry may be worn in body piercings, with the exception of amatching set of appropriately sized earrings, worn in the lowest hole inthe earlobe.• NO visible tattoos or other body modification, including ear spacers.MENAcceptable• Dress trousers and a short- or long-sleeved professional-style shirt arerequired. Shirts must be tucked in, with the exception of camp-style dressshirts and sweaters specifically tailored otherwise.• Clothing should be neat, pressed and conservative in nature.• Dress shoes and socks are required.• Sideburns should be neatly trimmed, straight and have even width, andmay not extend beyond the bottom of the earlobe.• Hair must be neatly cut in a conservative style so that it does not extendbeyond or cover the ears or collar.• Hair color and highlights must be natural looking, well maintained andcomplementary to skin tone.NOTE: Highlights should be no more than two shades difference from thebase hair color and must be well blended over the entire head.• Mustaches must be neatly trimmed and fully grown, not extending pastthe corners of the mouth and not covering the lip.
