Part III — Areas of StudyReligious Education Curriculum DirectoryThe Third Part of this Curriculum Directory is a principled statement of the content of ReligiousEducation for our Catholic schools:123It broadly follows the structure of the Constitutions of the Second Vatican Council and theCatechism of the Catholic Church.It distinguishes four principal Areas of Study, and for each area it names the key facets of theCatholic faith that form the core of Religious Education in Catholic schools.It goes on to outline the teaching content for each area as it unfolds in age groups during primaryand secondary education by way of examples.Since this is a curriculum directory and not a syllabus, the doctrines and topics designated are intendedto provide an overview. The more detailed notes for each topic are offered as an aide-mémoireto assist planning. Diocesan officers will continue, throughsupport for teachers and in-service provision, to encourage collaboration and development in thework of Catholic Education.10
