A deep well supplied me with purecold watei', a great luxury in this climate. Five minutes' walkdown <strong>the</strong> road brought me to <strong>the</strong> market and <strong>the</strong> beacli, whilein tlie opposite direction <strong>the</strong>re were no more Euroj^ean housesbetween me and <strong>the</strong> mountain.
