One nationalstudy conducted in 2008 shows that firearms, especiallyhandguns, were the most common weapon used by men tomurder women. For homicides in which the weapon couldbe identified, 52% of women (858 out of 1,662) were killedwith a gun. Of the 858 women, nearly two-thirds of thewomen (534) were murdered by their male intimate partner. 4The 2010 Texas data indicates perpetrators used firearmsin 92 (65%) of the 142 murders. Each note includes the date of each woman’s death and the city in which shewas killed, followed by a short description of the circumstances. The police shotMcClendon after a standoff. Helater died of his injuries.4.21.10 | SAN ANTONIOValerie Cantu, 21Jason Bondoc, 27, attacked his girlfriendValerie on the side of a road. As Valerie triedto run away, an oncoming car struckher. Valerie died three days later from theinjuries. Ragland told a store clerkthat he had killed his girlfriend. When policewent to the apartment, they found Ramiya’sbody in the closet. Ragland had a history ofviolence including kidnapping a minor andfamily violence. He was also a registered sexoffender.2.4.10 | SAN ANTONIOBexar11.11.10 | SAN ANTONIOOfelia Alvarado, 25Mario Ramirez, 25, stabbed Ofelia to death.The day before her death, Ofelia told her sisterthat she rejected Ramirez’s sexual advances.Ofelia’s sister found her body in the kitchen.Authorities charged Ramirez with Ofelia’sdeath.Yvette Ibarra, 40Roland Ibarra, 46, shot and killed his wifeYvette at the home of her daughter. Yvette diedat the hospital. Ibarra subsequently committedsuicide. Yvette had obtained a protective orderagainst Ibarra. Yvette is survived by her threechildren.3.20.10 | SAN ANTONIOJanet Tribolet, 78Charles Tribolet, 83, shot and killed his wifeJanet and their son Charles G. He also shot Melissa’s 16 year-olddaughter, who was taken to the hospital andreported to be in stable condition. Maynardfled in his vehicle. He shot and killed himselfwhile fleeing from the police. He called to alert police andthen shot himself in his truck.Cameron8.25.10 | BROWNSVILLETiffany Galvan, 17Javier de la Rosa, Jr., 16, stabbed his exgirlfriendTiffany to death. Tiffany, a senior inhigh school, had recently broken up with dela Rosa. The police arrested him shortly afterauthorities found Tiffany’s body in the parkand charged de la Rosa with capital murder.2.23.10 | BROWNSVILLEVeronica Ibarra, 31Alfredo Ibarra, 33, strangled his wife Veronicato death. Police arrived to the scene afterAlfredo Ibarra informed them that he hadkilled his wife and would be killing himself. Atthe time of the murder, Veronica and AlfredoIbarra lived in separate homes. Alfredo Ibarrahas been charged with her murder. Veronicais survived by her four children.Collin3.10.10 | PLANOMinal Bhagat, 36Barinder Singh, 47, shot and killed his wifeMinal in her home. The couple’s children andvictim’s mother were present. Singh fled andwas later arrested by police in MontgomeryCounty. Authorities charged Singh withMinal’s murder. Court records show thatMinal filed for divorce and Singh was orderedto anger management. Minal is survived bytheir two children.Comal12.12.10 | CANYON LAKEArden Anne Specia-Spencer, 52Mark Spencer, 53, shot and killed his wifeArden and then shot and killed himself. Ardenfiled for divorce and had obtained a protectiveorder. Arden is survived by her two sons.Coryell2.27.10 | GATESVILLENicha Cox, 34Curtis Lunsford, 20, shot and killed hisgirlfriend Nicha at her apartment. Henry subsequentlyshot and killed himself. Carrie had obtained aprotective order. Alonso called the police andadmitted to Alma’s murder.3.3.10 | DALLASQueen Brown, 30Quantevious Slaughter, 20, shot and killedhis girlfriend Queen while she was drivingwith her sister. Slaughter shot both Queenand her sister. Queen died at the hospital.As Slaughter fled from the police, he had awreck and then committed suicide.13

Freeman iscurrently a fugitive. Cynthia is survived by hertwo children.12.15.10 | DALLASJuanita Delreal, 21David Cavazos, 22, shot and killed his wifeJuanita. Cavazos and Juanita were in the samecar. When Juanita tried to drive away Cavazosshot her, removed her from the vehicle andfled the scene. Authorities listed Cavazos as afugitive.2.10.10 | DALLASChristina Garcia, 22Jesus Diaz, 32, shot and killed his girlfriendChristina. Authorities have charged Diaz withChristina’s murder.7.19.10 | MESQUITEIrene Haggerty, 46Godfrey Spain, 52, beat his wife Irene to deathin their home. As part of his probation, Johnsonwas ordered to have no contact with Shawana.Shawana’s three year-old son witnessed thestabbing. Shawana died at the hospital shortlyafter the stabbing. Belinda wasa municipal judge working with at risk youth.Richard Loveland sent a text informing theirson of his plans. The son contacted emergencyservices. Emergency personnel transportedVerenice to the hospital where Verenice waspronounced dead. A child was present at thetime of the stabbing.6.26.10 | MESQUITEAnnie Maudlin, 24Kevin Allison, 30, shot and killed his girlfriendAnnie in her apartment. Authorities chargedAllison with Annie’s murder.3.17.10 | CEDAR HILLAmy Mayfield, 37Jerry Mayfield, 45, shot and killed his wife Amyin the garage of their home and then killedhimself. Mayfield left notes and emails detailingthe deaths.1.13.10 | IRVINGBetty Miller, 66Calvin Miller, 68, strangled his wife Betty. Policefound Betty unconscious and transportedher to Baylor Hospital where she underwentsurgery. Betty died shortly afterwards.Authorities have charged Miller with Betty’smurder.6.26.10 | GARLANDPearl Ramos Hernan, 31Julio Trevino, 36, strangled his wife Pearl todeath in their home. The following morning,Pearl’s body was found inside a car at a churchparking lot. Authorities have charged Trevinowith strangulation.14

Elenawas five-and-a-half months pregnant and issurvived by her six children.10.10 | DeSOTOKizzy Richardson-Walker, 32Greg Walker, 38, killed his wife Kizzy at theirapartment. Kizzy went to their apartment toget her belongings and to leave him. Kizzyand Walker had been married for six months.After family members filed a missing personreport, her burned body was found nearLake, Mississippi. Janice had obtaineda protective order. As Wanda ran to aneighbor’s house for help, Belle killed Wanda.Wanda and Belle had filed for divorce. Wandais survived by her four children.7.24.10 | HITCHCOCKErika Johnetta Gee, 31Bernard Cunningham, 33, shot his girlfriendErika in her apartment. Erika’s 10 yearolddaughter witnessed the shooting.Cunningham shot Erika because he felt sheignored him. Erika was 5 months pregnantand is survived by her 10 year-old daughter.6.15.10 | LA MARQUEMonique Powell, 26Kenneth Loftis, 24, shot and killed his exgirlfriendMonique at their apartment. Loftisand Monique were sharing an apartment.2.14.10 | TEXAS CITYTeresa Marie Wright, 33Gifford Johnson, 35, strangled his girlfriendTeresa at her home. Teresa’s 15 year-olddaughter found Teresa the next morning.The medical examiner determined Teresadied due to strangulation. Johnson wassubsequently arrested and charged with hermurder. Teresa was a student in the policeacademy. Teresa is survived by her threechildren.15

The couple’s young sons, andMelissa’s niece, witnessed the murders.Authorities have charged Cole with capitalmurder for the two deaths. Melissa issurvived by her two sons.

10.18.10 | HOUSTONCarmella Coleman, 28Tredric Culclager, 33, stabbed his girlfriendCarmella to death in his apartment. Headmitted to police he fatally stabbedCarmella. Authorities have chargedCulclager with her murder.6.4.10 | HOUSTONEdwina Foster, 43George Hudson, 67, shot and killed his wifeEdwina and then shot himself. They werefound in their home after neighbors calledthe police. The police reported thatEdwina had been shot several times andthat Hudson had apparent self-inflictedgunshot wounds.12.26.10 | SPRINGChristina Garcia, 26Adolpho Martinez, 25, stabbed hisgirlfriend Christina in their home. Christinaran to neighbors for help. Christina wastransported to the hospital and later diedfrom the injuries. Authorities have chargedMartinez with Christina’s death.6.22.10 | HOUSTONGloria Gonzales, 40William Lee Roe, 40, shot and killed hiswife Gloria while they were sitting in a car.Gloria’s 17 year-old daughter and 5 montholdgranddaughter were in the backseat.Gloria died at the scene. Roe subsequentlycommitted suicide and died in the hospital.They were separated at the time of theshooting. Hurts confessed the murder tothe pastor.10.6.10 | NASSAU BAYWanda Kilgore, 58William Beichner, 67, fatally stabbed andkilled his wife Wanda at their apartment.Police found Beichner at the crime scene andcharged him with Wanda’s murder.5.23.10 | PASADENAJoey Lynn Kinzer-Salem, 35Khaled Salem, 38, killed his wife Joey at theirhome. Salem subsequently left the sceneand crashed his car. Salem was taken tothe hospital after the crash and notified thenursing staff that he had killed Joey. Policefound Joey’s body in their home. Joey issurvived by her two children.5.16.10 | HOUSTONPamela Kouba, 66Kenneth Keizer, 45, shot and killed his wifePamela. Keizer then shot and killed himself.2.9.10 | HOUSTONMonica Victoria Leija, 36Juan Castillo, 29, shot his wife Monica todeath in her home.Family members called thepolice when Monica did not report to workand was missing. Interviews afterwards indicatedthat Sydavong was suicidal and had a historyof violence.2.13.10 | HOUSTONRenee Longoria, 51William Robert Stone, 47, strangled hisgirlfriend Renee to death in her home. Stoneconfessed to beating and strangling Renee.Authorities have charged Stone with Renee’sdeath.11.27.10 | HOUSTONJoyce Lynch, 45William Lynch, 43, fatally beat his wife Joycein their home. Lynch admitted to the Sheriff’sOffice that he killed Joyce. Lynch has a historyof family violence and has been charged withJoyce’s murder. Joyce is survived by her son.5.13.10 | HOUSTONPalma Garcia Marlen-Beatriz, 30Pedro Cueva-Ferman, 48, killed his wife Palmaby crashing their vehicle. Cueva-Ferman hadbooked flights for himself and his son dated aday after the crash. Cueva-Ferman has beencharged with her murder. Palma is survived byher 3 year-old son.5.8.10 | HOUSTONJanet McAfee, 50Ken McAfee, 59, shot his wife Janet to death intheir home. McAfee killed Janet and attemptedsuicide during a three-hour standoff. Janet hadsummoned police through a panic button in thehome’s security system. Authorities chargedMcAfee with Janet’s death.5.16.10 | HOUSTONJennifer Elaine McDougall, 30Michael McDougall, 37, shot his wife Jenniferto death in their driveway. Jennifer was sixmonths pregnant. The couple’s three children,ages two, four, and eight, were at home duringthe shooting. Authorities charged McDougallwith capital murder for Jennifer’s and theunborn child’s death. Jennifer is survived byher three children.2.9.10 | CYPRESSNafuterie Moore, 27Michael Bryant, 26, shot his girlfriendNafuterie to death while in a vehicle thatwas driven by his brother. Nafuterie’s bodywas found in Cypress Creek. He latersurrendered to the police and authoritiescharged Bryant with Nafuterie’s murder.Nafuterie is survived by her two year olddaughter.2.5.10 | HOUSTONWillie Mae Pakoejoe, 60Herman Pakoejoe, 56, shot and killed hiswife Willie in their home. He then committedsuicide. Herman Pakoejoe and Willie livedwith their granddaughter, who was home atthe time and found them.6.5.10 | HOUSTONMaria Aracel Portillo, 45Humberto Canjura, 59, shot his ex-wifeMaria to death before killing himself. Mariaand her son went to visit Canjura, whoopened fire. Maria’s son escaped andcontacted the police.1.4.10 | HOUSTONDayna Robinson, 27Timothy Victoria, 29, stabbed his girlfriendDayna to death in her garage and alsostabbed Dayna’s four year-old daughter –she survived. Victoria has been chargedwith capital murder for Dayna’s death.Dayna is survived by her daughter.2.9.10 | HOUSTONMelissa Trujillo, 18Noe Moreno-Mares, 22, strangled hisgirlfriend Melissa to death in their home.Moreno-Mares fled to his extended family’shouse with their three month-old infantand stated he had a physical altercationwith Melissa. He has been charged withMelissa’s murder. Melissa is survived by herthree month-old son.2.17.10 | HOUSTONSandra Valladares, 35Francisco Acuna, 50, shot and killed hiswife Sandra. 2.21.10 | HOUSTONCarla Carrera Vasquez, 20Dennis Carias, 24, stabbed his wife Carla todeath in their apartment complex. In May of2009, Carias served a 30-day sentence injail for a family violence offense. Authoritieshave charged Carias with Carla’s murder.8.8.10 | HOUSTONLisa Williams, 41Rykan Jones, 43, shot his ex-wife Lisa todeath. Police reported that Jones went toLisa’s home where he shot her. Jones diedat the scene from self-inflicted gunshotwounds. Lisa died at the hospital.Harrison9.6.10 | MARSHALLShirlette Green, 48Jeffery Charles Green, 48, shot and killedhis wife Shirlette.
