Activity<strong>Dr</strong>. <strong>Rabbit</strong> <strong>Says</strong> . . .Oral Health GameGrades K-1Curricular Connections:Language Arts and cooperativeteamworkActivity at a Glance:Your students will have the chance to become <strong>Dr</strong>. <strong>Rabbit</strong>’sRoyal Helpers by putting their knowledge of oral healthto the test. In teams, students will recall oral healthvocabulary and create sentences to spread <strong>Dr</strong>. <strong>Rabbit</strong>’s oralhealth messages.Objectives:Oral Health: The student will recall oral health vocabularyand concepts presented in the video.Curricular: The student will identify words relating to oralhealth and compose sentences.Getting Ready:Materials: <strong>Dr</strong>. <strong>Rabbit</strong> <strong>Says</strong> Reproducible, chalkboard/chartpaper, container, drawing paper, and crayons.Teacher Preparation: Photocopy one <strong>Dr</strong>. <strong>Rabbit</strong> <strong>Says</strong> foreach student. Cut the words into individual word blocks.Teaching Tip: <strong>Dr</strong>. <strong>Rabbit</strong> <strong>Says</strong> works best in teams of 5 students.To help with understanding, review words before beginning the game.Step-by-Step:Introduction/Prior Knowledge:• Ask students, “In the video, how did <strong>Dr</strong>. <strong>Rabbit</strong>and <strong>Dr</strong>. Brushwell help us?” (Discuss video.)• Tell students, “Our 5 friends listened to<strong>Dr</strong>. <strong>Rabbit</strong> and <strong>Dr</strong>. Brushwell and used goodoral health to fight Sorcerer Plakula and theplaque monsters. Now it’s your turn to saveTooth Kingdom by becoming one of <strong>Dr</strong>.<strong>Rabbit</strong>’s Royal Helpers and spreading goodoral health to your classmates.”• Tell students, “Today we are going to play agame called ‘<strong>Dr</strong>. <strong>Rabbit</strong> <strong>Says</strong>.’ In this game,we will spread <strong>Dr</strong>. <strong>Rabbit</strong>’s good oral healthmessages.”• Tell students, “You will be divided into teamsof 5 and will begin the challenge. The teamthat has the most points at the end of the gamewill become <strong>Dr</strong>. <strong>Rabbit</strong>’s Royal Helpers.”• Divide the class into teams and review thegame rules for “<strong>Dr</strong>. <strong>Rabbit</strong> <strong>Says</strong>.”Game RulesBefore the challenge begins, ask each team to create a team name.Write each team name on the chalkboard/chart paper to recordtheir points earned during the challenge. You may want the teammembers to take turns picking the clue and reporting their results.1. Place all words in a container. Have a team member from eachteam pick a word. Ask the students not to look at the word untileach team has picked a word.2. When each team has picked a word, say “Challenge” – this willsignal the teams to begin. The teams should work together tocreate a sentence using the word. Each sentence must beginwith “<strong>Dr</strong>. <strong>Rabbit</strong> says.”3. Give the teams 30 seconds. When time is up, say “<strong>Dr</strong>. <strong>Rabbit</strong><strong>Says</strong>.” This should signal the teams to stop.4. Ask the teams to take turns and tell you their sentence. To earna point, the sentence must contain the word they picked andbegin with “<strong>Dr</strong>. <strong>Rabbit</strong> says.”5. Record the sentences on the chalkboard/chart paper and theteam’s points under their name.6. Once all words have been picked from the container, add thepoints for each team, and determine who becomes <strong>Dr</strong>. <strong>Rabbit</strong>’sRoyal Helpers. It is fine if teams tie.Application:•After the game, review the team’s sentences recorded during thegame. Assign each student a sentence.
