Itmay be someone you loved has passed away,or a good friend that you would like to keep intouch with, a family member that may begoing through some tough times, or someone in your lifethat you care about and would like to tell them.Easter is the perfect time for doing this. It is a time forrenewal. Gone (for now) are the days of Lent and ahead liesendless possibilities. Every year we have Easter Lilies thatare displayed around the church. If you would like tocontribute to our Easter Lily fund, envelopes are available inthe vestibules. This is a nice way to remember someoneTHE GUILT OF US ALLAs we observe the passion and death of Jesus, we must remember that no one ethnic or religious group of people isresponsible for the death of our Savior. He died voluntarily for the sins of all people “at the hands of evildoers” so that we mightbe saved from eternal death. The use of the words “the Jews” (or similar expressions) in the gospelaccounts of Christ’s death does not mean that the Jewish people killed Jesus. In the Gospel of John, forexample, it is not even clear who “the Jews” that seek Jesus’ death are. Certainly Jesus, his motherMary, the apostles, and most, if not all of the disciples, are also “the Jews.” In fact, everyone in thegospel account except Pilate, his wife, and his soldiers are Jews. (Simon was probably a Jew fromCyrene, perhaps in Jerusalem for the holy day. And scripture tells us that Joseph of Arimathea was “adisciple of Jesus,” but it doesn’t necessarily mean that he wasn’t Jewish - he owned a grave inJerusalem.) To think that the gospel means that the Jewish people - then and now - are responsible forthe death of Jesus (and thus today are to be coerced to convert, blamed or condemned) is wrong. It is sinful to twist the sacredscriptures for any purpose of hate, bigotry or prejudice. It is better to recall the words of the prophet Isaiah that we hear on GoodFriday: “He was pierced for our offenses, crushed for our sins...the Lord laid upon him the guilt of us all.” Copyright © 2001 Archdiocese ofChicago: Liturgy Training

Rather, He gave them (and us)a model to imitate.Have you washed anyone's feet lately? Maybe you haven't literally soaped up a friend's smelly feet as a sign ofyour unconditional love, but I'm sure you have given of yourself in a foot-washing way.To wash the feet of others is to love them even when they don't deserve your love.To wash the feet of others is to do good to them even if they don't return the favor. To wash the feet of others is to consider their needs as important as your own.To wash the feet of others is to forgive them even if they don't say, "I'm sorry."To wash the feet of others is to serve them even when the task is unpleasant. To wash the feet of others is to let them know you care when they feel downtrodden or burdened. To wash the feet of others is to be generous with what you have.To wash the feet of others is to turn the cheek instead of retaliating when you're treated unfairly. To wash the feet of others is to make adjustments in your plans to serve their needs. To wash the feet of others is to serve them with humility and not with any hope of reward.Notice the posture of Jesus.
