Murilo was a youth champion in 2001 and arrived at the adult national team in 2003. Elected the best player of the 2010 World Championship, he played in Italy for four years. He began playing volleyball at the age of 9 by doctor’s orders after the removal of a benign tumor from his left leg. In 1992, he was South American children/youth champion and in 1995 was elected the best setter of the Malaysia Youth World Championship. He was first called for the adult national team in 1997.
