When Ligia was 11 years old she was
going to register for swimming
lessons. However, the coach didn’t
show up and she ended up at the
table tennis school at the Olympic
Village of Manaus. When she was 17
years old she moved to Santos to
improve her technique and was called
to join the national youth team. She
stated that through sports she was
able to fulfill her childhood dream of
buying a house for her mother. She
participated in the Sydney 2000 and
Athens 2004 Olympic Games. She
graduated in Physical Education.
