Tales started to swim at 7 as a
treatment for asthma. In 2005, at
18 years of age, he moved to São
Paulo and spent six years living in
this state’s capital. He returned to
Rio in 2011 to swim for Flamengo
Club. Son of the former football
arbiter Claudio Vinicius Cerdeira,
he is part of the project “Rumo ao
Ouro in 2016” managed by the
Cesar Cielo Institute. Having
conquered a place for London
2012 was a big victory, after losing
the Shanghai qualifying trials for
just one centesimal.
