The withdrawal from the team just
before the Beijing Olympic Games
almost led Erika Miranda to give
up her judo career. However, with
the support of her family she
gathered up all her strength to
continue and became the first
Brazilian champion of one stage of
the Grand Slam. She won a gold
medal at the Pan American
Championship in Montreal, in
April. She has the habit of
meditating before the fights.
