Aerotow AGM Report
The Scottish Aerotow Club AGM was held in the Lion and Unicorn pub at 7pm on Sunday 3rd December. As usual there
was lots of idle hang gliding chit-chat, but the main points from the meeting were as follows:
• The club is expecting to make a small profit of around £150 by the end of the year, bringing the club funds up from
£1650 to £1800.
• We are looking at selling the XL tug to keep our costs down and give ourselves a more secure financial position.
We will get a new permit for the 912 before the start of the new season.
• We are planning to promote hang gliding by putting posters up in places like Tiso's and doing more dual aerotows.
We also hope to visit Portmoak and Perth to showcase hang gliding.
• Finally, we're planning some fun activities 2007, including another Aerotow Competition, and hopefully a heli-lift
with gliders to the top of Ben Nevis. At the moment it's only a pipe-dream, but hopefully it will actually happen!
If anyone wants a copy of the minutes, let me know.
Get back out there when it's windy!
What to do when it's not flyable
according to X-Sail ltd
Now that the windy season is upon us maybe your club members could do with an extra string to their hang gliding bows.
We used to run a paragliding school ( Parapente Ecosse) for 14 years, so we understand how frustrating the weather can
be, and the need to make the best of your valuable free time.
When foot and mouth interrupted play in 2001 we started offering a new activity to our disgruntled clients, and then the
product we were using became so popular that we became the UK distributors. Now, having marketed blokart in the UK
for nearly 6 years, we have grown increasingly frustrated in the price of the product, which has only ever gone up.
We thought we'd do something about it. We've launched a new product, which we have begun producing ourselves after
a lengthy design and development process. The stainless steel X-sail - blows you away.
You don't need a beach to go X-sailing - car parks, playing fields, old runways are all great places to buzz around and you
learn the ropes very very quickly. 5 minutes is literally all you need to learn how to X-sail safely, and as it all packs away
into a bag no bigger than a paraglider sack, it needn't fill up your garage. Better still leave it in the car to be pulled out when
the opportunity arises.
We set out to produce something of exceptional quality and value for money, and are delighted that our growing customer
base is telling us that we've done just that. To help the X-sail name and reputation grow we're investing huge amounts.
Not by spending money on conventional advertising but by giving it to our customers.
We're lopping a massive £500 off the retail price to get the X-sail out there being seen, pumping adrenalin and making folk
grin. We know that the quality and performance will speak for itself, and your discounted X-sail will then bring us great
feedback.
If you've ever thought of buying a blokart take a closer look at what we've got. If you've already bought a blokart, we extend
our sincerest apologies - we're sorry for taking so long to produce the X-sail. Either way we hope we can extend to you
our fantastic reputation for customer service and our commitment to providing exciting wind machines.
Please see the attached pics for details and visit our fledgling website at www.x-sail.com
The X-Sail is all stainless steel, with a choice of 2 sail sizes, 3.5m and 4.5m and it includes the carry bag etc. It comes with
a full 1 Year warranty, which is serviced by us from the UK - we're a UK based company - X-Sail Ltd
The normal retail price is £1497 for the 3.5m and £1547 for the 4.5m, £1000 less than the same specification of blokart,
but.....The X-Crew promotional price to you is £997 for a 3.5m and £1047 for a 4.5m and next day delivery in the UK is £23.
I recently received the following e-mail:
Latest News
Scottish Airsports Club
Get Yourself on TV
We're now in the beginning of making a new gameshow that requires teams of two people and they can be any pairing -
friends, couples, colleagues - and what we will do is set them a series of challenges that are designed to test the teams
endurance, skill, intelligence and at times physical prowess.
The challenges are going to be unique and exciting but the great thing about them is that whether the teams competing
win or lose the challenges will be an awesome experience. Not only that, anyone from 18 to 80 can take part.
From our point of view we're interested to see the team dynamics and how a team works together on the show to solve a
problem and how they progress through the series of programmes. Naturally there will be a winning team and that team
will receive a very special prize.
I was thinking this show might appeal to your members and I was wondering if you may be able to circulate information
for us, giving our contact details should anybody be interested in applying for the show? A flyer perhaps?
Many thanks and best wishes,
YouTube - Well Worth $1 Billion
In case you don't know, YouTube, the website for posting your own videos for all to see was recently bought by Google for
just over $1 Billion. At the time, any thought it was over-priced, but now a true classic has been posted by none other than
our own Gordon Ross, justifying the purchase price for this one video alone.
Point your browser at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ty5M55KasaU and see what all the fuss is about, as you enjoy
highlights of our 2006 trip to Lanzarote. Then contact Andy to join our 2007 so that you can be a part of the next video
and not miss out on the fun! Just don't expect the other videos on YouTube to be of this quality.
Chrismas Jokes
Thanks to Andy for sending in the following. They may have a flying theme rather than a festive theme, but I thought
they fitted in well to this season of Christmas Cracker jokes!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
You've never been lost until you've been lost at Mach 3.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
The only time you have too much fuel is when you're on fire.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
There are more planes in the ocean than submarines in the sky.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
If the wings are traveling faster than the fuselage, it's probably a helicopter -- and therefore, unsafe
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
When one engine fails on a twin-engine airplane you always have enough power left to get you to the scene of the
crash.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Without ammo, the USAF would be just another expensive flying club.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
What is the similarity between Air Traffic Controllers and pilots?
If a pilot screws up, the pilot dies; If ATC screws up, ...the pilot dies.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Never trade luck for skill.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Weather forecasts are horoscopes with numbers.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Progress in airline flying: now a flight attendant can get a pilot pregnant.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Airspeed, altitude and brains. Two are always needed to successfully complete the flight.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
A smooth landing is mostly luck; two in a row is all luck; three in a row is prevarication.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
I remember when sex was safe and flying was dangerous.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mankind has a perfect record in aviation; we never left one up there!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Flying the airplane is more important than radioing your plight to a person on the ground incapable of understanding or
doing anything about it.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Piper Cub is the safest airplane in the world; ...it can just barely kill you.
(Attributed to Max Stanley, Northrop test pilot)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
A pilot who doesn't have any fear probably isn't flying his plane to its maximum.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you're faced with a forced landing, fly the thing as far into the crash as possible.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Never fly in the same cockpit with someone braver than you.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
The 3 best things in life are: a good landing, a good orgasm, and, a good bowel movement.
The night carrier landing is one of the few opportunities in life where you get to experience all three at the same time.
(Former Navy aircraft carrier pilot.)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
If something hasn't broken on your helicopter, it's about to.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Basic Flying Rules: Try to stay in the middle of the air. Do not go near the edges of it. The edges of the air can be recognized
by the appearance of ground, buildings, sea,
trees and interstellar space. It is much more difficult to fly there.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
You know that your landing gear is up and locked when it takes full power to taxi to the terminal.
