Another important topic for research at the Division is power electronic supply inbuildings with an overall goal of energy efficiency. The research activity on thistopic involves one PhD student project which is performed in collaboration with theDivision of Chalmers Building Services Engineering.Post-doc projectsEnergy efficiency of electrical drive systemsParticipant: Sonja Tidblad LundmarkSponsor: Swedish Energy Agency. The aim of this project is to consider the energy efficiency of electrical drivesystems; the components of the system should have low energy consumption, lowproduction cost where each part is optimally used, preferably for several differentapplications, and the parts should be recyclable in a cost effective way. Traditionaldesign and production will be evaluated against more integrated multi-functionalmethods. Further, the finite element method will be used for modellingelectromagnetic and thermal phenomena in order to calculate efficiency ofelectrical machines.PhD student projectsDesign of power electronic equipment for hybrid electric vehiclesParticipants: Ghasem Aghdam, Torbjörn ThiringerSponsor: Swedish Energy Agency. The main objectives of this project are to consider the operational aspects put onthe power electronic converters placed in a hybrid electric vehicle, and to studyconverters fit for this application. In the engine room of a vehicle with acombustion engine, the temperatures are substantially higher than 50°C, thecooling fluids having even higher temperatures, and of course the components inpower electronic converters must be able to handle high temperatures. Apart fromthe high temperatures, there are environmental aspects to consider in the vehicle, for example low temperature, vibrations, dirt and humidity, creating a need for newpower electronic converters able to withstand such conditions.Integrated drive and charging system for a hybrid vehicleParticipants: Saeid Haghbin, Anders Lindskog, Sonja Lundmark, TorbjörnThiringer, Ola Carlson,Sponsors: SHC, Swedish Energy Agency and Volvo Car CorporationThe two projects described here are about the design and integration of theelectric drive system and the on-board charging system in hybrid plug-in vehicles. Thus the traction circuit parts (i.e. electric machine, inverter and sensors) are usedin the charger circuit to make an integrated charger and traction system in order toreduce size, weight, space and total cost of the electrical system of the vehicle.34 |
