The budget process continues and the Budget Committee and negotiating teams have worked on parallel tracks to ensure the shortfall is addressed for next year. I want to applaud these two groups as well as the Educational Programs and Operations, Facilities and Technology Committees for the many hours and thought dedicated to ensuring Pali is financially solvent into the future without undercutting our mission or vision. Fundraising: The Pali Fund has raised $100k this year and plans are already underway to dramatically increase fundraising next year. Traveling parents have pledged approximately $100k toward the cost of busing next year. June 6 th is the date of the 2nd Annual Pali Spirit & Gilbert Awards event, to be held this year at the home of Mayor Richard Riordan. This event will benefit the transportation fund with proceeds going to support busing for continuing students. Please come if you can! Leadership and governance policies: We are planning to schedule a separate period-by-period meeting on Charter 101, ED v. Principal roles and the governance policies the Board is currently considering next week (tentatively Monday 5/10 and Tuesday 5/11). All staff are invited to these meetings (classified please coordinate with your supervisor to figure out which period to attend). This means this week's May 5 th and 6 th CST period-by-period faculty in-service meetings will run only a third or so of the conference period. I hope all families have a great month. June 7 - O perations, Facilities & Technology Committee mtg- 3:15, Library LETTER FROM THE PRINCIPAL Dear Parents, We are coming to the home stretch in what has been a most extraordinary semester. Much has happened on a daily basis; however, I feel that we are emerging as a strong, more cohesive community, ready to tackle what lies ahead. First, let me sing some "Pali Praises": Sandra Martin- Sandra was a speaker at Marymount College as part of the Women's History Month Celebration! Did you know that Sandra is an award-winning children's book author? The New York Public Library named Sandra's middle grade biography Alicia Alonso: First Lady of the Ballet as among the best 100 books for teenage readers. Congratulations, Sandra! Lisa Kraus- Lisa and her amazing Drama students recently won a First-Place Sweepstakes Trophy at the Shakespearean Festival where 80 schools competed for the coveted spots. Many of Pali's Drama students also took home individual honors. Congratulations to Lisa and her class. (Please see "Drama Dept. News", in another section of this newsletter, for a complete story on this accomplishment.) Monica Iannessa- Congratulations and a huge "thank you" to Monica for her year- long planning and organization of the "Every 15-Minutes" assembly for the Pali community. Thanks also go to Marike Anderson, Bella McGowan, Chris Lee, Jeanne Saiza and all of our wonderful parents and students who participated in this most incredible experience. If we are able to change the behavior of just one teenager, then all of the planning was 100 per cent worth it. Steve Burr- Steve was recently named as a Petrick Award winner! Congratulations Steve! The judges who observed Steve mentioned in an article in the Palisadian Post that they were impressed by the amount of "peer engagement" they observed in Steve's advanced level class.
