RECESSION... NOT DEPRESSION<br />

Broadly defined a recession is a downturn in a nation’s economic activity, where the consequences<br />
typically include increased un-employment, decreased consumers, declining stock<br />
prices and recovery in market is slow.<br />
The National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) formally defines a recession as three<br />
consecutive quarters of falling values of gross domestic product (GDP). During recession the inflation<br />
in the market & the interest rate in various banking operation may decline which can result<br />
in drop in profits & dividend values for many organizations.<br />
Excellent strategies by Indian automobile sector has overturned the threat of recession in Indian<br />
market.<br />
Maruti Suzuki has not seen a good sales figure in last few months but has shown positive figure<br />
compared to last financial Year, and still expect around 1.5% higher sales over the previous<br />
financial year. Hero Honda grows at 11 % against the entire two wheeler industry which grew by<br />
1.7 % for the first 11 months of FY 2008-09.<br />
Analyst says that Hero Honda celebrating 25th anniversary this year managed the downturn this<br />
year by following strategical marketing plans like 50:50 Rural-Urban sales, focus on 100cc bikes<br />
& encashing brand equity.<br />
TVS Motors posted 2% growth where as Honda Motorcycle & Scooter (HMSIL) the makers of<br />
Activa made 2.4% growth in the month of March,09 which includes domestic sales & export both.<br />
Hyundai, the country’s second largest car maker was able to maintain sales momentum of<br />
45.3% growth in February.<br />
Meanwhile Tata Motors has launched NANO the world’s cheapest car but its sales fell 4% with<br />
the company’s selling 23,680 units in domestic market. The company had bounced back in February<br />
with sales growth of 1.4%.<br />
Honda Siel saw sales got a boost 17% in March when it sold 7368 units in March 2009 against<br />
5579 units in February.<br />
The new Honda City has emerged as an exemplary performer even in this challenging time,<br />
sales of the Honda city has grown by 20% ever since the deliveries started in November 2008.<br />
The success of XYLO made M&M saw its passenger utility vehicle sales grow by 30 %. However<br />
sales of Renault’s Logan for March dipped 69% to 962 units over the same month last year.<br />

In last quarter many important customers visited our plant . From Brazil one of the biggest aftermarket<br />
autoparts manufacturer , International team of TATA Landrover and people from TATA<br />
NANO. All of them have shown interest for further bussiness with SFN. TATA Landrover has<br />
immediately called our technical team to initiate further business talks.<br />
SFN has signed single source supplier status<br />
for next five years for engine and transmission<br />
seals. We are one of the prestigious<br />
auto component manufacturers to achieve<br />
such status.<br />
We have also received purchase order for engine<br />
seal for Nano diesel and Nano Europa.<br />
RECESSION... NOT DEPRESSION<br />
Indian Government & RBI have taken various policy measures to counter the effect of recession.<br />
However the Market leaders are playing all the cards very carefully as the world wide<br />
economic deceleration may cause some more downgrades over next few months.<br />
“The Export oriented sectors textiles, automobiles & auto auxiliaries as well as real estate may<br />
see more downgrades” said Mr. P K Chaudhury, vice chairman & group CEO, ICRA, another<br />
top rating agency.<br />

possible down grades and beat the effect of recession<br />

Production & Maintenance departments have modified existing Pokayokes<br />
for spring checking which gives good control on Part traceability and<br />
Part flow. By doing this, online checking & packaging has also started in<br />
production cells.<br />
The same system will be implemented on shop floor for other parts with in<br />
next four months.<br />
Our Maintenance Dept. has developed a<br />
special purpose machine (SLIM), inhouse<br />
which is a tribute to their team work and capability.<br />

Sharpen Edge<br />
Training and Development is an activity aimed towards enhancing the performance of individuals<br />
and groups in the organization.<br />
“We at SFN are also playing the same role for developing our employees. Training in any<br />
business is important and we are proud to say that here at SFN, there has been a contineous<br />
and regular effort to focus on this particular requirement. For individual’s development,<br />
specific trainings are planned. This helps to give them the required and desired<br />
exposure”.<br />
Training here has always been an ongoing and continuous process with regular improvements.<br />
We believe that “everyone here is a trainee as well as a trainer”, because every trained employee<br />
can train other employees in turn.<br />
A trainer must develop a positive attitude towards himself first because you cannot give to others<br />
something that you don’t have yourself. The trainer also has to be convinced that he is contributing<br />
towards the success of the organization. At the same time the trainees too need to have a<br />
learning attitude. The genuine beauty of learning is that we can learn anytime, from anywhere<br />
and from anyone. SO “NEVER STOP LEARNING”.<br />
The trainings here are planned separately for all the levels. In the last quarter, 61 Trainings<br />
were conducted. Out of these, 24 trainings were for management staffs and 37 trainings<br />
