News & EventsINTERNATIONAL COMMISSIONERSCONFERENCE.On the weekend of Sept 10/11, Iand a team member travelled toCanberra to aend the Interna‐onal Commissioners Conference.The Indonesian Embassy in Canberraheld a recepon for <strong>Scouts</strong>Australia, aended by 28 representavesfrom almost all itsBranches in Australia on Friday 9 thSeptember <strong>2011</strong>.Commissioners in charge of Internaonal from most Branchesaended a meeng in Canberra over the weekend, and <strong>Scouts</strong>Australia asked for a chance to visit the Embassy.The Indonesian Embassy sawthis as a good opportunity toshow their countries apprecia‐on for the cooperaon andsupport given from Scout’sAustralia thus far.The evening started with thedelegaon vising the IndonesianCultural Centre, where wewere introduced to the gamelan,which is the full musical instrument set of Indonesia.The evening then progressed with an authenc Indonesian dinner,presentaons on Australian volunteering and the history ofScoung in Indonesia, and a wonderful enthralling surprise Balinesedance performed by Gede Eka Riadi.His Excellency Primo Alui Joelianto, expressed in his remarks hisgratude to <strong>Scouts</strong> Australia for their past and future social work inLombok.GOLD COAST ISL BASKETBALL COMPETITIONFor the second year in a row <strong>Scouts</strong><strong>Queensland</strong> has sponsored a basketballteam in the Intensity Super League orISL as it is commonly known which isplayed at the Southport School (TSS)every Sunday for around the next 10weeks. We have appointed Rob Garneras our coach for the second year in arow. Rob took us to the semi finals lastyear and hopes to go all the way this season. Our Marquee playeris Ryan Jefferies an excing player who scoresanywhere between 25 and 30 points a game.A few weeks ago all the potenal playersspent the day scrimmaging in alternanggroups of five so all the coaches could seetheir ability. Then in a very tense hour playerswere draed into the 11 sides makingup the compeon. I am now looking for asmuch support as we can give to urge theScout <strong>Queensland</strong> Shooters in their campaign to win the winnertake all $8000 prize money. The <strong>Scouts</strong> <strong>Queensland</strong> Shooters areMarquee Ryan Jefferies, Troy "Rompa" Pinkerton, Brent Petrie,Adam Brown, Taylor Barry, Hans Yu, Andrew Dubelaar, Dylan Kay,Snowy Frankland and Ralph HickmanIf you would like to come down to the Gold Coast and watch someof the most professional players in South East <strong>Queensland</strong>, whichInclude Shane the Hammer Heal (Sydney Kings and GC Blaze),Sandy Brondello (Opals), Steve Broom (Townsville Crocs), JamesHarvey (Coaching) Jayden Tom and Karl Neilson (Blaze Development)to name a few you will find them playing at TSS on the followingmes: Oct 2 2:00 pm, Oct 9 2:30 pm, Oct 16 Bye, Oct 2312:30 pm, Oct 30 11:00 am.
