News & EventsSARDA VISITS BURLEIGH HEADS SCOUT GROUPThe QLD team of Search and Rescue Dogs Australia (SARDA) visited the BurleighHeads Joeys, Cubs and <strong>Scouts</strong> to teach them about SARDA’s missionand to demonstrate training and search techniques.SARDA is a volunteer‐based non‐profit organisaon that provides speciallytrained search and rescue dogs for use primarily in Urban Search and Rescue(USAR) situaons. A USAR situaon would be where people are trapped in a collapsed building due to anevent like an earthquake, flood or explosion. The dogs are trained to findand alert to any live people who are trapped.Once a team passes all their assessments and reaches a deployment level,they will deploy with <strong>Queensland</strong> Fire and Rescue as part of their task force.To develop and maintain an effecve SAR dog team, members engage inmany hundreds of hours training, for themselves and their dogs, in a varietyof emergency and search acvies and situaons.The QLD team performed a number of rescues of youthmembers hidden inside and outside the den. To learn more about SARDA, visit www.sarda.net.au.CAMP COOROORA GET BUNK BEDS DONATEDIn response to an invitaon to local community service organisaons, to parcipate in a ‘Buy ABunk’ campaign, a number of QCWA branches and Tewann Noosa RSL Club helped finance thepurchase of new double bunks for the re‐furbished bunk rooms at Camp Cooroora Scout Camp onLake Macdonald, half way between Cooroy and Tewann on the Sunshine Coast. Other serviceclubs and local organisaons have indicated that they will follow suit in the near future.Recently Directors from the Tewann Noosa RSL, visited the campsite and inspected the bunks.The photo shows (le to right) Mr. Dean Marlow, RSL Community Support Convener, MaroochydoreCub <strong>Scouts</strong>, Jackson Eiby and Sophie Kraayenbrink and Mr. Bruce Hunngton, a memberof the RSL Community Support Team, inspecng the bunksDECEPTION BAY ENJOY SKILLORAMAWell another year has passed for Skillorama and what a turn out it was. Congratulaons toWoodford Scout Group for taking out best acvity. Decepon Bay Scout Group came insecond by a quarter of a point. Decepon Bay Scout Group put on 3acvies for the day and once again we were flat out all day.Our space ship was full to the brim all‐day and the aliens were keptbusy showing the earthlings around. Some of the earthlings had their face painted and some earthlings tried somespace dust.
