BackgroundThe study <strong>assistance</strong> <strong>scheme</strong> is available to Western Australian (WA) public sectoremployees, who are undertaking postgraduate study related to their employment.The <strong>Public</strong> <strong>Sector</strong> <strong>Commission</strong> has partnered with The University of Western Australia(UWA) to provide a discount on tuition fees for selected postgraduate courses.ScopeThe discount is valued at 10 per cent of the fee at the time of enrolment, calculated on aunit by unit basis.The discount only applies to the following programs offered by UWA in 2013.UWA Business Schoolwww.business.uwa.edu.au• Graduate Certificate in SocialImpact• Master of Business Administration(Advanced)• Executive Master of Business• Master of Business AdministrationAdministration• Master of Professional Accounting • Master of Human Resources andEmployment Relations• Master of Marketing • Master of Business InformationManagement• Master of Economics • Master of CommerceEligibilityPermanent or fixed term employees (full-time and part-time) in public sector agenciesare eligible to apply for the study <strong>assistance</strong> <strong>scheme</strong>. Staff that are employed through anemployment agency are not eligible to apply for the discount.Applicants must meet each of the following criteria:• be new entrants to the course of study in 2013 and be enrolled in the course priorto applying for the discount, or must have received the discount in 2012• meet the academic entry and progress requirements of UWA• enrol in their course of study and obtain a student number before applying for thestudy <strong>assistance</strong> <strong>scheme</strong>.The study <strong>assistance</strong> <strong>scheme</strong> is not available to applicants who are re-enrolling in one ofthe listed courses in 2013, and who did not receive the discount in 2012.Applicants who are approved to receive the discount in 2013:• will continue to qualify for the discount for the remainder of their programs(subject to ongoing eligibility) and must re-apply for the discount at the beginningof each study period


• will continue to be eligible for the discount should they choose to progress tohigher level UWA programs (for example a Graduate Certificate to a GraduateDiploma)• will remain eligible for the discount as long as they remain an employee of apublic sector agencyApplications must be endorsed by the <strong>Commission</strong> to be eligible for the discount.The <strong>Commission</strong>’s endorsement does not override UWA’s entry or academic progressrequirements.DeadlinesApplication deadlines for the study <strong>assistance</strong> <strong>scheme</strong> in 2013 are:• Trimester one: 21 January• Trimester two: 13 May• Trimester three: 26 AugustApplications received after these dates will not be eligible for the study <strong>assistance</strong><strong>scheme</strong>.Applicants for UWA Business School courses must apply for the discount before thedeadline stated for their first teaching period of that year.
