Determining the perpendicular components of a vec<strong>to</strong>r is often useful in sports biomechanics.<br />

Examples include the normal and frictional components of ground reaction<br />

force, and the horizontal and vertical components of a projectile’s velocity vec<strong>to</strong>r. It is,<br />

therefore, sometimes necessary <strong>to</strong> resolve a single vec<strong>to</strong>r in<strong>to</strong> two or three perpendicular<br />

components – a process known as vec<strong>to</strong>r resolution. This is essentially the reverse of<br />
