Equine Embryo TransferEDITORS’ FOREWORDThe <strong>5th</strong> <strong>International</strong> <strong>Symposium</strong> onEquine Embryo Transfer (EETV) wasarranged as a satellite symposium <strong>of</strong><strong>the</strong> 14th <strong>International</strong> Congress on AnimalReproduction (ICAR). This association withICAR-2000 was reflected in <strong>the</strong> peripateticvenue <strong>of</strong> EETV. The meeting started on <strong>the</strong>Silja Serenade ferry in Stockholm andcontinued during <strong>the</strong> voyage to Helsinki. Thesecond two days <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> meeting was held inSaari, Finland.EETV is one <strong>of</strong> a large number <strong>of</strong>symposia on equine reproduction funded by<strong>the</strong> Dorothy L. Russell HavemeyerFoundation. Sincere thanks are due to MrGene Pranzo, President <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Foundation,for recognising <strong>the</strong> importance andunderstanding <strong>the</strong> needs <strong>of</strong> internationalresearch on equine reproduction.The scientific programme was <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>highest quality, including <strong>the</strong> most noveltechniques in equine embryo biotechnology.The presenters <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> papers are to bethanked for <strong>the</strong>ir valuable contribution.EETV was <strong>the</strong> first international equinereproduction event ever arranged in Finland.Previous meetings in this series have takenplace in Cornell, Banff, Buenos Aires andReims. Each congress has had its ownparticular features relating to <strong>the</strong> specifichost countries. Finland is particularly wellknown for pure nature, lakes and sauna.Participants will get <strong>the</strong> opportunity toexperience all <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se.We are confident that <strong>the</strong> meetingrevealed a great deal <strong>of</strong> new information.
