Equine Embryo TransferEDITORS’ FOREWORDThe <str<strong>on</strong>g>5th</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>Internati<strong>on</strong>al</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>Symposium</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>on</strong>Equine Embryo Transfer (EETV) wasarranged as a satellite symposium <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g><str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> 14th <str<strong>on</strong>g>Internati<strong>on</strong>al</str<strong>on</strong>g> C<strong>on</strong>gress <strong>on</strong> AnimalReproducti<strong>on</strong> (ICAR). This associati<strong>on</strong> withICAR-2000 was reflected in <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> peripateticvenue <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> EETV. The meeting started <strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>Silja Serenade ferry in Stockholm andc<strong>on</strong>tinued during <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> voyage to Helsinki. Thesec<strong>on</strong>d two days <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> meeting was held inSaari, Finland.EETV is <strong>on</strong>e <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> a large number <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g>symposia <strong>on</strong> equine reproducti<strong>on</strong> funded by<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Dorothy L. Russell HavemeyerFoundati<strong>on</strong>. Sincere thanks are due to MrGene Pranzo, President <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Foundati<strong>on</strong>,for recognising <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> importance andunderstanding <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> needs <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> internati<strong>on</strong>alresearch <strong>on</strong> equine reproducti<strong>on</strong>.The scientific programme was <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>highest quality, including <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> most noveltechniques in equine embryo biotechnology.The presenters <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> papers are to bethanked for <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>ir valuable c<strong>on</strong>tributi<strong>on</strong>.EETV was <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> first internati<strong>on</strong>al equinereproducti<strong>on</strong> event ever arranged in Finland.Previous meetings in this series have takenplace in Cornell, Banff, Buenos Aires andReims. Each c<strong>on</strong>gress has had its ownparticular features relating to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> specifichost countries. Finland is particularly wellknown for pure nature, lakes and sauna.Participants will get <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> opportunity toexperience all <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>se.We are c<strong>on</strong>fident that <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> meetingrevealed a great deal <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> new informati<strong>on</strong>.
