<strong>Right</strong> <strong>to</strong> <strong>Buy</strong>Who is eligibleYou may have the right <strong>to</strong> buy your home in thefollowing circumstances;You may be eligible for the Preserved <strong>Right</strong> <strong>to</strong> <strong>Buy</strong>(PRTB) if you are a tenant of <strong>Eastlands</strong> <strong>Homes</strong> andyou were a tenant of Manchester City Councilprior <strong>to</strong> the transfer of your home <strong>to</strong> <strong>Eastlands</strong><strong>Homes</strong> in September 2003 or March 2009 (thismeans that you have a protected tenancy). Theremust have been no breaks in your tenancy sincetransfer from Manchester City Council.You may be eligible for the <strong>Right</strong> <strong>to</strong> Acquire(RTA). You can use this scheme <strong>to</strong> buy your homeif you are an <strong>Eastlands</strong> <strong>Homes</strong> assured tenant, inarmed forces accommodation, or as an assuredtenant of a Registered Social Landlord (RSL), suchas <strong>Eastlands</strong> <strong>Homes</strong> (this period increases <strong>to</strong> fiveyears if your tenancy started on or after 18January 2005).You must occupy the property as your only orprincipal home and your home must be a selfcontainedproperty.Who is not eligibleYou may not be able <strong>to</strong> apply for the PRTB or RTAif; a court makes a possession order that says thatyou must leave your home, you are declaredbankrupt and your bankruptcy order is still inforce or you have made arrangements withcredi<strong>to</strong>rs (people you owe money <strong>to</strong>) and you stillowe them money.Other things that may s<strong>to</strong>p you using the PRTB orRTA are:<strong>Homes</strong> that are particularly suitable for an elderlyperson such as Sheltered Accommodation.A home that was let <strong>to</strong> you or the previoustenant on the condition that you or other peopleliving in the property were over the age of 60before 1 January 1990.<strong>Homes</strong> where we have served a demolitionnotice. We do not have <strong>to</strong> let you buy your homewhile the notice is in force.There are other rules that may mean that youcannot use the PRTB or RTA scheme <strong>to</strong> buy yourhome.
