64 Cambridge University Orienteering Club http://www.srcf.ucam.org/~cuoc/ President: Nicola Roberson, Downing Captain: Edward Ward, Fitzwilliam Secretary: Rosemary Dyer, Girton Membership ranges from complete beginners to British Champions. The club subsidises transport to events, providing a great way of exploring some of the more interesting parts of the English countryside. Our training officer organises training sessions every week during term, including tea runs, reps and whatever else people are inclined to do throughout the year Half Blues awarded 2005 – 06 Alan Elder, Emmanuel Chris Williamson, Churchill Ian Elder, Downing Edmund Ward, Fitzwilliam Nicola Robertson, Downing Elspeth Ingleby, Emmanuel Anya Crocker, Jesus Varsity Match 25th – 26th February 2006 Leith Hill, Dorking Cambridge victory for both Men’s and Women’s teams, and thus overall winners. Despite traffic issues meaning the Cambridge contingent did not arrive at the area until 4pm, thus missing all starts, the competitors were undaunted and the event itself postponed till early the following morning. Early quick runs from the Cambridge contingent showed that we would be a force to be reckoned with this year, despite lacklustre results in recent years. Although the Oxford team took the Women’s individual trophy, good runs from all three counting Cambridge women secured a good lead over the rest of the Oxford women, with the women’s team reclaiming the trophy for the first time in four years. The Men’s individual trophy was taken by a storming run by Alan Elder, with the other Cambridge counters finishing with good times to guarantee a good lead over the Oxford team. Outstanding performances by Alan Elder who won the Men’s Individual race for the first time by over 5 minutes. Other Team Highlights BUSA 11th – 12th March 2006 Location: Edinburgh Result: 6th Place Despite sending a team weakened through injury and unavoidable absence, Cambridge managed a very creditable result of 6th out of 22 in the annual BUSA orienteering competition. Best results on the individual courses were 26th (Men) and 15th (Women).
