H i g h S c h o o l N E W SIn my last <strong>Informer</strong> article we were congratulating ourBasketball players on becoming NECIS champions and lookingtowards <strong>the</strong> NECIS Swimming Tournament at Sigtuna inSweden. Again, it is great to report some outstanding successat <strong>the</strong> tournament - <strong>the</strong> team returning with 1 Gold, 16 Silver,17 Bronze medals and over 40 ribbons. <strong>The</strong>se students made usproud both inside and outside <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> pool. A big thank you tocoaches Hettema, Cox and Hogarth.Many thanks and congratulations also go to <strong>the</strong> SymphonicBand and <strong>the</strong>ir director Mr. Christensen for <strong>the</strong> wonderfulconcert last Tuesday evening. A real treat for <strong>the</strong> packed <strong>the</strong>atre<strong>of</strong> 5th through 12th grade families!I would also like to congratulate Kirsten Peacock and MarteenRam our Unge Forskere competition winners who returnedfrom Oslo last Saturday! Ms Park has written about this indetail in her section.I am writing this contribution after just returning from <strong>the</strong> IBArt exhibition in Tou Scene. We really have talented studentsat ISS and it is great to see <strong>the</strong>m able to exhibit <strong>the</strong>ir work inan au<strong>the</strong>ntic environment. <strong>The</strong> number <strong>of</strong> parents, studentsand teachers at <strong>the</strong> event was heartwarming and I would liketo thank Ms Svihus for introducing <strong>the</strong> initiative and putting<strong>the</strong> arrangements in place to make it happen. <strong>The</strong> vernissagewas a fitting closure to two years’ worth <strong>of</strong> creative engagement.Also as I write, students are putting in final rehearsals for <strong>the</strong>Amnesty <strong>International</strong> fundraiser – <strong>The</strong> Secret Policeman’sBall. We wish <strong>the</strong>m all <strong>the</strong> best in this endeavor.Ano<strong>the</strong>r event on <strong>the</strong> horizon is an information eveningfor parents in regard to potential ‘risk’ factors affecting ourteenagers. This will be held on Wednesday 6th May between19:00 and 20:30 in <strong>the</strong> Middle and High <strong>School</strong> Library.<strong>The</strong> format for <strong>the</strong> evening will be that <strong>of</strong> a panel discussion,sharing information and responding to questions from parents.<strong>The</strong> main ‘at risk’ areas that will be covered include: Trendsin drinking habits <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> teenager today, Drug and substanceabuse, what to look for and how to prevent <strong>the</strong> addiction andInternet Safety.Finally, 17th May arrangements are in process. ISS proudlyparticipates in Norway’s finest day (whatever <strong>the</strong> wea<strong>the</strong>r).Students will come into school as usual on <strong>the</strong> Sunday morningin order to participate in <strong>the</strong> parade.
