ISS Sports NewsOur friend <strong>the</strong> sun is back shining a bit more <strong>of</strong>ten as well asa little while longer, springtime is upon us and our sportingseason has moved outdoors! But here is a little review <strong>of</strong> winterseason and also what we have on for spring season. If you stillwant to join us for a sport please contact JP or Mark and we candirect you to <strong>the</strong> correct coach.Track and Field<strong>The</strong> MS and HS team has been training in preparation forseveral different meets. On April 15th, ISS hosted <strong>the</strong> ISS Stevne.Although no o<strong>the</strong>r local teams participated, athletes were givenan opportunity to compete against <strong>the</strong>ir teammates within afriendly environment. From all reports, <strong>the</strong> meet ran smoothlyand <strong>the</strong> athletes appreciated <strong>the</strong> opportunity to challenge<strong>the</strong>mselves and set individual goals. Also a special thank you toour volunteers for that meet, it can’t be held without you!On April 16th, several members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> team participated in<strong>the</strong> Skjalgstafetten relays. ISS rose to <strong>the</strong> challenge andreceived two silver medals in <strong>the</strong> boys U14 and U16 and onebronze in <strong>the</strong> boys U16 age group. This is particularly rewardingas <strong>the</strong> teams we competed against train all year toge<strong>the</strong>r. Allparticipants showed <strong>the</strong>ir team spirit and dedication to <strong>the</strong>sport. Well done!On Saturday, April 25th, <strong>the</strong> entire track team will be running<strong>the</strong> Siddisløpet. This is an 8k race around Stokka lake. Manypeople are expected to participate. We wish all <strong>the</strong> athletes goodluck for this race.Girls Football (Varsity and U15)<strong>The</strong> Varsity Girls Football team has been hard at work gettingready for <strong>the</strong>ir tournament on May 28th and 29th. Practicing<strong>the</strong>ir skills and working on teamwork is coming along nicelyand we expect to be having a couple <strong>of</strong> matches before <strong>the</strong>tournament. Keep working hard girls and see you on Monday,Wednesday and Friday from 1530-1730!U15 Girls Football has been practicing hard with Coach Espen.<strong>The</strong>ir practices are held on Tuesday and Thursdays from 1530-1700. <strong>The</strong>ir skills are coming along nicely for <strong>the</strong> NECIStournament in <strong>Stavanger</strong> on May 28th and 29th. Keep workinghard at practice girls.Boys Rugby has seen a lot <strong>of</strong> enthusiasm as well as numbers.<strong>The</strong> turnout is creating a great atmosphere at practice as we lookforward to our training games before <strong>the</strong> tournament to be heldat ISS on May 28th and 29th. All <strong>the</strong> coaches are pleased to seeso many young gentleman embracing a new sport.<strong>The</strong> Primary <strong>School</strong> Track season is in full swing withover 95 athletes currently participating. Practices are onThursdays from 15:30 to 16:45. We will conclude <strong>the</strong> seasonwww.isstavanger.nowith a mini-track meet hosted by <strong>the</strong> Middle and High <strong>School</strong>Track Team on Friday, May 15th at 15:30. Currently athletesare taking part in a series <strong>of</strong> low-pressure workouts designedto build coordination skills and foster teamwork. <strong>The</strong>y arebecoming familiar with and learning various techniques as <strong>the</strong>yparticipate in short distance sprints, longer distance runningand games, hurdling, <strong>the</strong> long and high jump, discus andshot-put style throwing. This is a fabulous introduction to <strong>the</strong>benefits <strong>of</strong> exercise!ISS Vikings Swim Club continues to meet on Fridaysat Randaberg pool. We will be training until <strong>the</strong> end <strong>of</strong> May.Currently 38 students are participating in <strong>the</strong> training sessionsat <strong>the</strong> pool each week. It is great to see <strong>the</strong>m enjoying swimtraining and continuing to improve <strong>the</strong>ir stroke technique andstamina.Please remember that <strong>the</strong> students need to be collected from<strong>the</strong> pool at 5pm (17.00) each week.
