1Admissions RequirementsNew Students1. Admissions for New Credit Students: All students who havenever registered before at NCC must complete an application.The online application is at www.ncc.commnet.edu. Follow theAdmissions link. Submit the $20 application fee. Applicationsusing a fee “waiver” cannot be submitted on line.2. Apply for Financial Aid: Go to www.FAFSA.ed.gov. You mayalso refer to NK-Finaid@ncc.commnet.edu for information.• Your Admissions application must list a degree program andyou must provide complete immunizations to be consideredfor Federal Financial Aid.• Proof of High School completion (diploma or GED scores)must also be provided.3. Make a reservation for placement test by using your NCC identificationnumber located on your acceptance letter/e-mail. Followthe Admissions link to the placement test appointment screen.Students with earned college credits in freshman level English andMath or with SAT scores above 450 (Eng) and 550 (Math) areexempt. Proof of coursework or SAT scores must be provided.4. Submit proof of high school graduation or GED results if youplan to complete an NCC degree or certificate program.5. Get an e-mail address where we can send information about your financial aid. Both NCC’s Financial Aid Office and theU.S. Department of Education will use your e-mail address to send you updates about your Financial Aid. If you don’thave an e-mail address you can get one for FREE at many websites on the internet. Some of these sites are www.hotmail.com, www.juno.com, www.worldnet.com, www.yahoo.com.2. Apply for a Personal Identification Number (PIN) If you don’t have a PIN go to www.pin.ed.gov and apply for one. ThePIN allows you to sign your Federal Student Aid Application online.3. Complete FAFSA on the Web. To apply for Federal, State and NCC aid, ple<strong>as</strong>e go to the FAFSA website at www.FAFSA.ed.gov and apply for one. The PIN allows you to sign your Federal Student Aid Application online. This is a FREE process.There are other websites that charge a fee, these are NOT the U.S. Department of Education’s website and you shouldnever pay a fee to fill out the FAFSA application. 3Take the Placement TestAll first-time students must take a placement test - a computerizedskill <strong>as</strong>sessment of your reading comprehension,writing and mathematics abilities. The results will provide youand your NCC advisor with the information needed to placeyou in courses appropriate to your background and ability.In order to sign up for a placement test, you must firstsubmit an application to NCC, with a $20.00 fee, andreceive your NCC Student ID (or Banner) number.Testing is by appointment only, at convenient day and eveningtimes throughout the week. 5 ncc.commnet.edu5Academic AdvisingAfter your admissions application h<strong>as</strong> been accepted and you are a student at NCC, you will receive a letter from us <strong>as</strong>signing youto a specific academic advisor. Usually, your advisor will be the Program Director of the Degree or Certificate Program in whichyou have enrolled. If you are a General Studies or non-degree major, you are <strong>as</strong>signed to a counselor in the counseling and studentsuccess center who best understands your particular needs and goals. Make a note of this person’s name, because he or she willguide you through your academic career at the <strong>College</strong>. If you have questions about courses needed to fulfill your degree or certificaterequirements, your academic advisor is the person you should see.Web registration begins April 1st. In-person registration begins April 18th. Students should make an appointment with their advisor.Your academic advisor will help you achieve your goals. ONLINE REGISTRATIONNetID and Login Information for Course Registration on the WebWhat’s NetID, and why should I care?NetID is your college network username, and allows you to log on to computersin the library and labs.
