<strong>Indiana</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>Cross</strong> <strong>Country</strong> / Track & Field Coaching StaffGeoff Wayton - Women’s Track & Field Assistant CoachGeoff Wayton enters his eighth year ofcoaching at <strong>Indiana</strong> <strong>State</strong> after a successfulcareer as a distance runner for the Sycamores(1995-2000).Wayton has helped improve the <strong>Indiana</strong><strong>State</strong> sprinters’ contribution more than600% at the MVC Championships. His firstyear saw Jerry Clopton become the firstmale Sycamore sprinter to advance to theNCAA regional championships in the 200meters. Year two saw Jeramie Gray claimhis first MVC sprint crown in the 60 metersindoors, and Jeanne Roberts run the thirdfastest 100 meter time in <strong>Indiana</strong> <strong>State</strong> history(11.51). Also in 2007, the Sycamoresprinters advanced more athletes to the finalsof the MVC Championships in the sprintevents than any other Valley foe.In 2008 Jeramie Gray successfully defendedhis indoor 60 meter conference titleand provisionally qualified for the NCAAChampionships. Outdoors, Jeanne Middletonand Gary Ogburn both advanced to theNCAA regional championships in the 100meters and 200 meters, respectfully.During the 2009 indoor season, JeramieGray and Jeanne Middleton captured theirrespective titles in the 60 meters at the MVCIndoor Championships. Waytons’ 4 x 100mRelay teams accomplished a first for <strong>Indiana</strong><strong>State</strong> <strong>University</strong> as both the Men’s andWomen’s teams qualified for the NCAA MideastRegional Championships. Daryl Truitt(10.50) and Jeanne Middleton (11.53) bothqualified individually for the NCAA MideastRegional Championships in the 100m dash,and Middleton closed out her career as theMissouri Valley Conference Champion in the100m dash.In 2010, Daryl Truitt continued ISU’sdominance of the men’s indoor 60 metersin the MVC by winning the Indoor Championship.The 2011 season saw Daryl Truitt set acareer-best indoors over 60 meters (6.78)indoors, and five men scored in the 100meter and 200 meter events outdoors withDaryl Truitt, Andrew Stull, Shaun Smith,and Justin Baxtron receiving All-MVC honors.The Men’s 4 x 100 meter relay squadran the 2nd fastest time in school historytwice (40.43).A young group of <strong>Indiana</strong> <strong>State</strong> sprintersbegan to emerge during the <strong>2012</strong> seasonGEOFF WAYTONASSISTANT COACHTRACK & FIELDEIGHTH SEASONled by Justin Baxtron who was second inthe 60 meters at the MVC Indoors, and wonthe 200 meters and finished second in the100 meters at the MVC Outdoors.During the Fall of <strong>2012</strong> Wayton servedas Meet Director of the NCAA Division IMen’s and Women’s <strong>Cross</strong> <strong>Country</strong> NationalChampionships for the fourth-straight year.Both Wayton and fellow Assistant Coach JeffMartin also serve during the fall as meet directorsfor the Nike <strong>Cross</strong> Nationals MidwestRegional Championships. In 2009, Waytonalso worked as Assistant Meet Director forRose-Hulman Institute of Technology, asthey played host to the Division III GreatLakes Regional Championships. Waytonalso serves as the Regional Team Managerfor the Nike Track Nationals, a post he hasheld since 2010.A proud Alumnus of <strong>Indiana</strong> <strong>State</strong>, Waytonhas founded the Sycamore Track andField Alumni Panel, the Sycamore <strong>Cross</strong><strong>Country</strong> Alumni Reception, the SycamoreTrack and Field Alumni Reunion, and SycamoreSenior Day.Wayton serves on the United <strong>State</strong>sTrack and Field and <strong>Cross</strong> <strong>Country</strong> CoachesAssociation Rules Committee, and is activein the Terre Haute community servingas Vice-President of the Farrington’s GroveHistorical District.During his time as a Sycamore studentathlete,Wayton became the first Sycamoredistance runner to capture an individualconference title at the Missouri Valley ConferenceTrack and Field Championships,was twice named all-district in cross country,and was named to the Missouri ValleyConference’s All-Centennial Team in 2007.Wayton was also a prominent member ofthe first two MVC Champion cross countryteams at <strong>Indiana</strong> <strong>State</strong>.Following graduation, Wayton took partin the 2000 United <strong>State</strong>s Olympic Committee’sAltitude Training Study in Dallas, Tex.,and Park City, Utah. From 2001-2002, heserved as the head coach of the Academyof Holy Angels boys and girls cross countryand track teams in Richfield, Minn., duringwhich the boys team was ranked seventhin the state in 2001. At Holy Angels his 4 x1600m team qualified for the Adidas OutdoorNational Championships, and a recordnumber of athletes advanced to statecompetition. In 2005, he became the headcoach of Northview High School’s girls crosscountry and track teams in Brazil, Ind. UnderWayton, the team was the conferencerunner-up in track, advancing two athletesto the 2005 <strong>Indiana</strong> <strong>State</strong> Championships.The following fall, his cross country teamcaptured the Western <strong>Indiana</strong> Conferencetitle.A native on Linwood, New Jersey, Waytonis a 1995 graduate of Mainland RegionalHigh School where he was All-<strong>State</strong> in <strong>Cross</strong><strong>Country</strong> three times, <strong>State</strong> Champion in the3200m run, and South Jersey Runner-ofthe-Yearin 1993.Wayton’s father Reg received both his undergraduateand graduate degrees from <strong>Indiana</strong><strong>State</strong>, and his mother Sarah completedgraduate work at ISU. His twin brotherKurt, himself a proud Sycamore Alum andmember of the MVC All-Centennial team, isa high profile high school cross country /track and field coach in West-Windsor, NewJersey.
