<strong>Indiana</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>Cross</strong> <strong>Country</strong> / Track & Field Coaching StaffAngela (Angie) Martin enters her11th year at <strong>Indiana</strong> <strong>State</strong> and herthird as the head coach of the women’strack & field team with the <strong>2012</strong>-2013campaign. In two years as the headcoach, <strong>Indiana</strong> <strong>State</strong> has had a nationalchampion, four All-Americans, twoconference champions, and 24 selectedAll-Conference performers.In her second season as thewomen’s track & field head coach,three Sycamores earned All-Americanrecognition at the NCAA OutdoorChampionships and one earned All-American Recognition at the NCAAIndoor Championships. The group wasled by Felisha Johnson who picked upthree All-American recognitions during<strong>2012</strong> season with a fourth place finishin the weight throw at the IndoorChampionships, and fifth in the shotput and 22nd in the discus at theOutdoor Championships. Johnson alsocompeted at the U.S. Olympic Trialswhere she finished 13th.The Sycamores earned seven indoorand eight outdoor All-Conferencerecognitions at the MVC Championships.Nicole Hope won the Indoor Pole Vaultconference title while Macey Black,Stacia Weatherford, Leeann Michl,and Kaci Smith combined to win the4x400 meter relay at the outdoorchampionships. Five members ofthe team qualified for the NCAA EastPreliminary round including RichelleKimble in the pole vault and LeannMichl in the 800 meters, both justmissing out advancing to the NCAAFinals. Three others did compete in theNCAA Finals including Felisha Johnson(shot put and discus), Mary Theisen(shot put), and Stacia Weatherford(400 meter hurdles).In her first season as the headcoach, six Sycamores earned All-Conference recognition at the IndoorTrack & Field Championships andthree more earned All-Conferencerecognition at the Outdoor Track &Field Championships. Two members ofthe team earned All-American honorsat the NCAA Indoor Championships asFelisha Johnson won the weight throwand Kelsey Hanley placed seventh.Angie Martin - Women’s Track & Field Head CoachANGIE MARTINHEAD COACHWOMEN’STRACK & FIELDTHIRD SEASONBoth also advanced to compete in theNCAA Outdoor Championships. AnotherSycamore, Kelly Steffen, competed inthe USA Outdoor Junior Nationals inthe heptathlon.Martin coaches the long sprintersand combined event athletes for theSycamore combined track & fieldprogram. While at <strong>Indiana</strong> <strong>State</strong>,Martin has had athletes qualify forthe NCAA Championships 10 differenttimes. She has also coached 18 NCAARegional qualifiers and 19 MissouriValley Conference Champions.One of her protégés was Erica Moorewho earned All-American recognitionin 2010 in the indoor 800 meters andoutdoor 400 hurdles while competingat the NCAA Indoor ChampionshipsMissouri Valley ConferenceIndoor Track & FieldYear Place Points<strong>2012</strong> 5th 75.332011 4th 67.50Missouri Valley ConferenceOutdoor Track & FieldYear Place Points<strong>2012</strong> 4th 112.002011 4th 84.00(800 meters) and NCAA OutdoorChampionships (400 hurdles). Moorealso qualified for the NCAA’s in boththe indoor pentathlon and outdoorheptathlon but chose not to competein those events at the championships.Moore also won indoor conference titlesin the 800 meters and 4x400 relay,and outdoor titles in the 400 hurdles,heptathlon, and 4x400 relay.During the 2009 season, Martincoached Moore to the NCAA IndoorChampionships in both the 800 metersand pentathlon. After winning the800 meters and being a part of thechampionship 4x400 meter relay at theMVC Indoor Meet, Moore went on towin both the heptathlon and 400 meterhurdles at the Outdoor MVC Meet. Shefinished 17th overall in the heptathlonat the Outdoor NCAA Championships.After winning the 2008 IndoorMVC Championship in the 400 metersand 4x400 relay, Erica Moore wenton to finish ninth in the Indoor NCAAChampionships in the 800 meters. Shealso competed in the Outdoor NCAAChampionships and US Olympic Trialsin the 400 meter hurdles.Two other Sycamore athletes underMartin’s direction were Anthony Bertoliand Sean Wright. Bertoli finished thirdin the men’s decathlon at the 2009MVC Outdoor meet, while Sean Wrightfinished second in the 400 meters.Wright, a 20 time All-MVC athlete,qualified for the NCAA Mideast Regionalin both the 200 and 400 meter dashwhile Bertoli provisionally qualifiedfor the NCAA Championships in thedecathlon.The 2007 season saw Wrightprovisionally qualify for the NCAA 400meter dash indoors en route to breakinga 25 year old school record. UnderMartin’s direction Wright also brokethe outdoor school record (46.23),qualified for the NCAA Mideast Regionalin the 400 meter dash four times andanchored the regional qualifying 4 x400 meter relay.Martin coached her first nationalqualifier in the 400 meter dash in 2004.Alicia Miller broke both the indoor andoutdoor school records in the 400Page B6Sycamore <strong>Cross</strong> <strong>Country</strong> 2011 <strong>Yearbook</strong>
