That small seaport had its importance as <strong>the</strong>station <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> main submarine cable connecting <strong>the</strong> OccidentalProvinces with <strong>the</strong> outer world, and <strong>the</strong> junctionwith it <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Sulaco branch.
